I don't have any brilliant ideas (yet) for NaNo this year either, but I'll participate anyway because I'm not working on anything else. If you're in the middle of your revisions and and have little time as it is, I'd understand skipping NaNo this year... although I'd miss you! Maybe you could register anyway and do a reduced version and still pop into the forums and stuff from time to time?
I don't think I'll be able to skip it. I love NaNo, I love the whole concept of a huge bunch of people writing at the same time and sharing how they feel about it. And thinking about it, it may help me to detach myself for a while of the YA project and come back to it with fresh eyes in December. And edit this new NaNo when I finish the other YA. Ah.... decisions. I may be able to squeeze some writing during the Creativity Workshop too, if they are all working on their pieces.
I am not doing NaNo this year. I have ideas, but I want to focus on Diyari. NaNo comes around every year. And it is about spitting out the story. You are in a place where you want to grow as a writer...I think that is where you are. But at the end of the day, you have to do what works for you. You will make the right decision. (And I think EVERYWHERE is feeling money issues. 2010 has been a nightmare for me and most of my friends.)
I have to think about it, don't know what I will do. Yes, money is an issue, but don't think my writing will give me money this year yet. I think of myself as in the learning stage, so maybe if I have 2 manuscripts to edit, I will finish one that is worth publishing. I guess I'll finish this draft before November starts, and I was thinking about leting it sleep for a month, and then comming back to it with fresh eyes after doing a month off. Well not off, just working on something else.
You have to decide which you have more momentum going for. How important is NaNo? If none of those ideas tickles your fingers and you're really into revisions, skip NaNo and finish the manuscript.
You have to go with what's got you the most excited. If you don't, the effort is not going to satisfy.
My problem is that everything excites me. Revisions... yeah, I'm loving them because I love my story, and my characters. Writing new things... yes, absolutely! I guess I'll try to end this draft before November 1, and then I may be able to let it rest and write something new. I've found a project I like. It's not mine entirely, it's an idea shared with my daughter at bedside. But she wants me to write it. So I may give it a shoot. We've talked about it for so long I feel like I can write it with my eyes closed. And I love the characters too.
Thanks mum! Not sure if finishing something is right for me or I have to let it sleep for a while to see what works and what needs more effort. I still have a month before NaNo starts. And... of course, I have the conference next week!
Just my opinion, but it sounds like your inner self / muse REALLY wants to finish that YA. It might work out better for you anyway, not having to rush to work on something else and just using each spare minute to work on the book that you feel so positive about. Our guts are rarely wrong in this biz. If you have a "this is the one" feeling about your YA, finish it up and get it sent off! :-) BTW, have you heard about this
