Apr 24, 2010 20:04

This is my favorite holidays. Well, not exactly a holidays, it's a labor day because most bookshops claim they sell more books during labor days but anyway, every 23 April I take a day off from my job. I've always done. While I was at University I took the day off and just walked Barcelona's Ramblas up and down, looking at people, at books, at ( Read more... )

Rose OR books? What a crappy choice! Who wouldn't want both!

It's neat to read about other culture's customs and traditions, though. Thanks for posting this.

That's what I thought :) Rose and books is best choice ever!
Still remember my dad coming home with the three roses (one for mom, one for my sister and one for me) and then the four of us going out to pick up the books.

Truly cool to have a holiday in which anyone (even if its traditionally just the boys) gets a book. Here in Argentina, ignorance and a severe lack of reading is spreading at a huge rate - we need soemthing like that!

Yeah! I think our government is trying to expand the idea. I can recall while I was a teen they did celebrate a Sant Jordi's day in Japan, as we've got lots of Japanese tourists in Barcelona all year long.

We have the book day in Madrid too, but without the roses, which is a pity :-)

Madrid's Book Fair is gorgeous too! :) Isn't it in May or June... sometime between spring and summer?

It's at the end of May. But we celebrate 23.04. too, we had a big Noche de los Libros in Madrid, and books were 10% off as well. But no roses, alas :-(

As I don't know how to add pics to the comments, I'd add a user pic with a rose for you :)

What a great day! I wish we had one of those here. Wow.

I'm glad your family made the exception and bought you books. Roses are lovely, but they don't last. A book--ah, now that's a gift!

Guess it's not only my family, there are lots of kids books out there too, and books for anyone really.
Even though the best sellers get repeated in almost every street market table.
