Thank you everyone for the good wishes and your support. It means more than I can express right now.
Dinah is home now- but the vet said that it's organ failure and that we can try to get her to eat and keep her medicated, maybe there will be some recovery and they can put her on treatment for the liver disease. But if she hasn't eaten by then ( Read more... )

Oh, I'm so sorry. =( The liver is tricky, but I did have a cat come back from it, so there's some hope, anyhow. Thinking good thoughts and strength to all of you, whether that's for recovery or for deciding what to do. <3

I'm so sorry hun. For some reason LJ did not register your last post on my end so I didn't know she was doing so poorly. Know I am sending all of you my love and special vibes for your sweet Dinah.

Please let us know if we can do anything.

I remember when you lost Foxy. It seemed a gentle and dignified passing. Thank you for sharing- it helped me more than I can express.

I'm so torn right now, since we keep going back and forth with the vet- he's told us she's terminal, she won't eat, but he said he wasn't sure about helping her along. Chris and I have both talked to him on different days, Chris seeing him today- it's been hard for us to say, outright that we're ready for her to go- it seems the vet has sent her home to die. I want her to go painlessly and gently- why would he not make it easy? It almost makes me hope, which I know isn't going to happen.

But she seems pain free, just very tired. She won't eat anything we've offered her, so we're just going to keep her comfortable and loved as long as she's with us.

Try feeding her raw meat if she'll eat it. Rob's cat was diagnosed with kidney failure about a year ago and his mom discovered a high raw protein diet could help. The cat went back to the vet last month and his test results showed nothing wrong with his kidneys. It might help in this case, but it might not. Anything is better then nothing.

Sometimes though you just have to let them go. We lost Cash's brother 6 years ago to FIV. He literally wasted away to a mere 9 pounds (Cash is 15 pounds for comparison). He held on as long as he could but there wasn't much life left in him so we put him down. Same with our cancer ridden dog. Sometimes the best things we can do for them is to say goodbye and let them go without the pain.
