I just stuck my hand into the toilet tank to reattach a chain that had come loose, which normally isn't a big deal because those things aren't that nasty, I mean there's water and the fact that it's a toilet, but yeah, it's not that bad

You could try jiggling the handle around to see if it will work anyways. Or maybe getting some gloves. They've got to have some somewhere on that campus.
