[the picturesque town with all of its refineries is quiet and still; the air stagnant as though a single breath of wind hasn't blown through in a while. and indeed, there hasn't; not a single person or animal can be seen in the town either.
then, as if with the snap of someone's finger, the town is suddenly filled with townspeople going to and fro, and the air is sweet with the aroma of newly bloomed spring flowers and the wafting smell of freshly baked bread from the Luministi Bakery. an early morning sun gradually rises in the sky towards its zenith. there's not a single cloud in the sky, though there is a lovely breeze sweeping through the town. also, at that very moment, select homes in Luministi Greens East and West find themselves occupied, some with new residents and some with ones who have seen the insides of the places they didn't exactly call home the last time they were there. Mayor Caligin's
tried and true official greeting plays for each and every person in those homes immediately upon their appearance there.
not five minutes later, on every single CAT device and vidscreen around town, a
musical montage starts to play, accompanied by a visual one comprised of a few images around town before the image on-screen focuses in on the town hall, and then fades to show Mayor Caligin again, his grayscale visage smiling eagerly. he is every bit the image of a happy man concerned only with pleasing every citizen of his town.]
Good morning, citizens of Luministi! It is my pleasure to announce the arrival of several new citizens to our wonderful town. In their honor, several of our finest restaurants and our famous malt shop are offering coupons to all of our newcomers, as well as current residents so get out there and welcome your fellow citizen! [his smile somehow grows even broader--almost even prouder in a way.] Those coupons can be procured from our own darling town crier, Verita, in the town square.
Now I believe that is--[he stops abruptly as a sheet of paper and a hand belonging to Miss Osculia comes into view.] Ah yes, I knew there was something else I wished to announce. [he smiles at Miss Osculia off-screen and--is that a wink? hmmm, could be a trick of the sunlight coming into the mayoral office.] Two more short announcements. As part of our Luministi Revival Program and the influx of new residents, Sheriff Iussus has teamed up with our office to install a handful of new security cameras around town so the Sheriff's Office can better protect all citizens and act on any brewing trouble before it gets a chance to harm anyone. Do not forget, if you need any help at any time from the Sheriff, his CAT code and that of the Sheriff's Office is located in your town directory.
And on a lighter--much lighter!--note, the Janus Theatre has announced the first of its new film festivals. For the next two weeks, it will be celebrating a variety of the finest in classical vintage comedic feature-length films and short films in history. From the list I have in front of me, you are in for a treat! Now, all films will be shown within the theatre proper as well as our outdoor area located behind the Janus Theatre. I look forward to seeing everyone out enjoying themselves!
[and just as the CATs and vidscreens shut off, there is a curious little sound, like that of an old television set turning off...]
❧ Plot Details: And Now For Something...
Welcome to the game, everyone! Welcome to our newcomers and welcome back our returnees from the first season! This is our first official plot of the game, and trust me, there are many, many surprises in store for you all this season. So, this is how I will be doing plot updates! The IC portion will always appear above the LJ cut and the OOC portion will be indicated as it was above--that is, unless the IC portion gets insanely long, then I will cut it so it doesn't kill your f-list. Considering my track record...it's very well possible it'll happen again ^^; Normally, the OOC section will launch into a bit of an explanation of things that you will see in this plot, but first a little bit of business!
Anyway! I had already stated some important dates a few weeks ago, but I'll reiterate them here for anyone who missed them. Plots will happen bi-weekly starting from today, but some may not always appear around midnight as this one has done, but they will always appear on a Saturday (according to the EST time, anyway). Sometimes, I will throw in an additional aspect to the plot at the halfway point just to make things a little more interesting, or I might throw you guys something that is called a quick-time event. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it harkens to an event in a video game where a random button will pop up and you only have a short amount of time to hit it to initiate a special action. In terms of the RP, depending on the quick-time, you may be given only a week to resolve it, or maybe even as short as three or four days. The time limit will always be announced so don't worry about that. These plot additions will always appear in this main game comm, but I will also use the OOC comm and mod plurk to announce when they've ended. Both of these I won't be announcing ahead of time, however.
Applications and reserves will be closing on July 16th this year. Hopefully this will give even latecomers enough time to delve into the game before the season ends on September 17th. Also, there will be three activity checks for the game, the details of which can be found on the Rules page, and they will occur on the 14th of every month, from June to August. If you are afraid you won't be able to make the Activity Check's requirements, please don't be afraid to talk to me. I don't want to see you idle out because you didn't make AC. These activity checks will appear in the OOC comm this time around, but you'll be reminded of them beforehand and linked to them in the appropriate mod posts once they do appear. You'll have a week to reply to the activity check posts, and once the week has passed, I'll put a follow-up post about characters who are in danger of being dropped from the game. I'll only be giving three additional days instead of a full week to check in this time.
For returning characters/players, all NPC characters listed in the Town Features page won't be available like they were last season for private conversations and such. I'm...doing something a bit different this time around, but all characters will still be around in a sense. They just will have no memories of the previous season or anyone else in the town, as Mayor Caligin has already shown us. And likewise Verita, who is indeed waiting in the town square to eagerly hand out coupons and report the news as she gets word of it, will also show no sign of recognition towards anyone. Whether this changes or not, well...
Okay, enough with the business end of things! (I promise to put this fun stuff first for the rest of our plots~) Mayor Caligin mentioned that a few cameras had been put up around town, but...unfortunately, that was an understatement. On every single corner in the town, there is a security camera. Considering the size of Luministi, it's a bit overkill, but there is a reason--that won't be revealed at this time~
Instead! Let's move on to the film festival in the Janus Theatre. Caligin might have promised a wide range of classic comedies, however, the Janus Theatre wasn't able to obtain the rights to anything except for the entire catalogue of The Three Stooges (with the exception of The New Three Stooges cartoon, strangely enough). For two weeks straight, both the interior and exterior theatres will show such infamous shorts such as Pop Goes The Easel, Men in Black, In the Sweet Pie and Pie, and Violent Is The Word For Curly and every other of the Stooges' 190 short films and 30 feature-length films.
But something odd has happened in conjunction of the film festival. For some reason, two things will happen to each of the residents that the regular townspeople will not comment on or even notice at all:
- As you progress through your day, you'll notice that it sounds like music is following you--but don't worry, it isn't just you. Everyone will have their own personal background music accompanying them. It can be anything you think an orchestra or anything would play for your character, and the music can change depending on their mood, how fast they're moving--the sky's the limit! Music could even change to reflect the mood of a situation between two characters, like if the Doctor and Master happen to run into each other, this might suddenly start to play, but really, just have fun with it! You don't have to hunt through Youtube or anything for clips every single time the music changes. I don't want you to feel pressured to. Oh yes, the characters will be conscious of the music following them.
- In addition to the background music, you'll also notice that an invisible Foley artist is there as well, exaggerating every action of yours with a sound effect. Like if you clench your first, it'll have that odd clenching noise that sounds like you're wearing a leather glove (but really, how can skin do that?!), or your footsteps will make sounds no matter how soft you're walking on the streets/sidewalks/floors/etc. In a way, it's a bit like this, but even better! How far you want to go with it is completely up to you!
Why these strange and peculiar things are occurring is a wonder--and the bigger mystery is why the town is up and running again in the first place. But for now, go out and have some fun!
If you have any questions, concerns, comments, etc, you can go ahead and leave them here, or contact me through the mod email, pm, plurk, etc.
Oh, and if you missed it, there was a pre-game introduction meme I put up a few days ago that is still very much open! Also, I can be found in Luministi's AIM chat TownOfLuministi during the weekends, unless I get held up doing things in real life and such.
That should be it! Enjoy and welcome again to Luministi~ ♥
