AH, THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!

I could imagine Rupert being slightly annoyed with Mallory and I was full of nostalgia for Grantchester.

Mallory longing for James Strachey's touch was quite captivating.
Keep going!

Oh I'm so glad you got something out of it.

Tahnks ever so for reading it, I didn't think anyone would, and I've been tinkering with it on and off for aaages. That said there is more, shouldn't take too long to put it up - it's nearly finished and I have more of an impetus to complete it now that I know it might actually be read.

Yes I really think Rupert is a bit irritated by George there isn't enough challenge there, rather too much silent air and complacent peace and George seems to love that which exasperates Rupert further.

Wow, I enjoyed this so much - thanks for writing it! George is quite compelling.

Ah, since I'm a complete stranger dropping by your LJ, I should let you know that I found it by an LJ search for Rupert Brooke, who I recently discovered by way of The Stranger's Child by Alan Hollinghurst (one of the main characters is based on Brooke). I was absolutely delighted to find this fic - is part 2 in the works?

Ah yees, I read about The Stranger's Child -- I am such an intense Rupert Brooke aholic. Haven't read it itself yet though because, a) I HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS ABOUT BROOKE ALREADY and b) I'm not much of a fiction reader and probably wouldn't have the attention span to read it ( ... )

If you decide to read TSC, you might as well just get it from the library and read just the first section that deals with Brooke (called "Cecil Valance" there) set in 1913 when he's still alive (and seducing men): the remainder of the book concerns his legacy and treatment by biographers. An interesting and well-written book but more about Brooke as a subject rather than as a character, if you know what I mean.

I just ordered Friends and Apostles - can't wait to read it! I wish there was a Rupert Brooke fandom on LJ.

I can relate what you're saying about not being able to look at stuff you just wrote. I often feel that way about my writing. But I'm sure part 2 is worth posting - you can always go back and edit it later if you feel like it! I hope you don't mind if I friend you so that I can be sure to see it when you post.

LOL Oh man I just spent about an hour and a half editing the second part in a livejournal entry, (I prefer to do it in there because I find it easier to see for some reason, plus it seems more stable than my computer right now), and then when I posted it, it posted it with all my edits deleted ( ... )

I hope you do post it eventually, though of course that is your decision. If you need help editing, I'd be happy to take a look at it (though not this weekend as my brother and his ginormous family will be visiting, and I will be wrangling not only them but my 2-year old twins). I have been writing since 2007 in the Harry Potter fandom (all slash, hee) and have done a lot of beta work as well, plus I am writing original fic at the moment.

It makes sense to lol at Brooke; he's that arrogant hot guy you can never have; he flirts with you and the moment you respond, he runs away.
