Haven't watched s3, yet, and it'll probably take me a good long while to get around to it, because I know what happens.

Do I hate Rusty for killing off a gay character? Do I think he's secretly homophobic? C'mon, please! Has nobody watched this show?

Do I hate Rusty anyway? Well... kinda, yes. The same way I kinda hate Rowling for killing off Snape - because Ianto and Snape were my favorite characters in their respective fandoms. And, incidentally, the way I kinda hate Joss for killing off Wash.

Again, I haven't seen it, yet, so I don't yet know if I think Ianto's killed off for the "right reasons" (for a certain value of "right"). I know I think Snape being killed off in Deathly Hallowes was a crock of shite. And the way Wash got killed felt a whole lot like emotional blackmail (shouldn't have learned from Titanic, there, Joss!).

Actually... the only death in recent fandoms I can think of, which I can live with and which involves my favorite character, was the way Stephen Hart died in Primeval. Did it tear my heart out and ( ... )

Fuck. I knew the TW fandom was being stupid about CoE, but I had no idea that they'd gotten this fucking offensive about it. Sigh.

For what it's worth, I'm enjoying CoE a lot.

If it is any consolation the TW panel at Comic Con which I FEARED went very well. Ianto came up, of course, but it was all very civil.

the direction of much of the fannish over-reaction has completely depressed me - I've never really considered myself part of 'the fandom' but distancing oneself from the stupid is wise.

keep loving the characters, and appreciating all they (and RTD) have given us, and if you keep working on your Ianto novel, and ever feel like sharing, I hope you'll share in my direction.

Hi, lj-stalking creeper here (from your reaction to this post).

I just wanted to say that I have never been in Torchwood fandom (party because I always sort of suspected that if you scratched the surface it would sort of be like this), but being in Who fandom I had to deal with the CoE blowback anyway and... you've expressed everything that utterly and completely infuriated me about what was said about RTD.

And I love that he's a mouthy son-of-a-bitch. He's got every right to tell people to stfd when they're being out of line.

Perhaps I shall make Team Rusty shirts for ye olde cafe press store.

I would totally buy a Team Rusty t-shirt. I think he's fantastic, and I am sick to death of people who pull this kind of crap talking about him. If you want to criticize, at least do something that is a) legitimate, and b) non-offensive. God knows there's enough of that already!
