Summary: Paint with all the colors of the wind! Or at least with whatever colors Pao-lin managed to procure.

[At first, Hubert drops by in the morning and sees Pao-lin, but decides to leave her for the time being and heads off, seeing as how he has nothing to contribute to the mural. He returns within a couple of hours, when the colors are being laid down.

. . . She still looks busy. The fact that he's no longer a child makes this all the more awkward on his end, since a part of the enthusiasm up and vanished, but that's no fault of hers. Isn't that why he came regardless? With that thought in mind, all he can do for now is simply stand by and watch from a fair distance.]

Hell yeah bring the awkward!

[The mural's coming along nicely by this point, but given how she'd underestimated how difficult it was to draw the design on the wall, not to mention some minor mishaps to deal with (that may or may not have involved Grune), Pao-lin's starting to get a little worried that they might be behind schedule. Only a little worried, though -- she's an optimist at heart.

After finishing some work on the lettering, Pao-lin heads over to the refreshment table for some juice. That's when she spots Hubert watching from a distance, looking considerably older than the last time she'd seen him. She beams and waves at him. Come on over!]

[Oh. She saw him. Not that he was trying to hide or anything (not purposefully, anyway). It must be the aftereffects of having been a child for well over a week, because Pao-lin suddenly looks much smaller than he remembers as he approaches.]

Pao-lin.

[He stops there. Where does he begin, does she even want to hear anything?]

[Here is Pao-lin, totally oblivious to how uncomfortable Hubert is at the moment.]

Hi, Hubert! I'm glad you could make it. [Grin.] Good to see that you're back, too. [Even if his bitty self had been astonishingly adorable.]

[She brought it up. Of course she brought it up, what else could she have said? Hubert clears his throat.]

I apologize if I inconvenienced at that time.

Incovenienced...? [Quizzical expression.] No, not at all! [She only talked to you three times during the time you were bittified, damn.] It's not your fault you got turned into a kid.

However, I can account for my behavior as a child. I understand that I was . . . overly dependent, at one point.

[Embarrassing. She had to practically baby him at the party.]

Yeah, but...you were a kid! It makes sense that you'd be a little scared when you showed up in a weird place where you didn't know very many people. [Says the girl who's always been fearless about most things.] Besides, I didn't mind helping you out. That's what friends do, right?

[Hm. Friends. At any rate, talking about his younger self makes him uncomfortable, so he tries to change the subject after giving a curt nod.]

This is the mural project, yes?

[Subject change is a go! Pao-lin nods.]

We're just getting the basic colors and stuff down at the moment. [She glances over her shoulder at it.] There's a good chunk of it done already, but we've still got room for more people to help out! [She waves at the table of art supplies with the paper plate she's just picked up.] Just get a smock and a brush and I'll come over in a bit to let you know what to do. I need to eat a bit first, I haven't eaten in a while. [By which she means the last time she ate was about an hour and a half ago. Lord and Lady, this girl's stomach.]

[Did she just tell him to get a smock and a brush, because he didn't come here to do that. He blinks, but before Pao-lin can get away to get food, Hubert calls out hastily.]

[Pao-lin stops and glances over her shoulder, curious.]

[On second thought, never mind. He'll get a smock and a brush later. No point in complaining.]

. . . It's nothing.

[yeeeeah that's right, mister, you are going to fucking paint whether you like it or not Pao-lin gives him another smile and heads off to refresh herself. Pizza from Azzip is a go!]

[/sob what is his life And after a long while of just staring at the smock, he finally throws it on. His uniform is more important than this.

Then he stares at the brush in his hand. He knows how to paint. But this is not what he came to do. Where on the mural is he even supposed to continue?]

[Silly Hubert, that's why you wait for Pao-lin to come back so she can give you your orders. She comes up behind him a minute or two later with a plate of cookies and a couple of slices of pizza, one of which is currently stuffed into her mouth.]
