Food is a foolproof way to get Pao-lin to go almost anywhere. She can't cook yet, but seeing the wonderful things that everyone else has made for this party is really inspiring her to learn how. Not just so she can enjoy the things she likes, but also so she can make others happy with the things she makes.

For now, though, she's just going to savor the culinary treasures of the buffet table. But she's also eyeing the corner full of board games too...

[Those board games are pretty tempting huh? Just look at them, sitting there in that box, waiting to be played with...

And to one side of this box, a five year old is shaking a game of snakes and ladders around. It rattles! This is an awesome toy. Now if only she knew how to play-- Oh, the box just flew open.

The die from the box rolls across the floor and towards Pao-lin. Yotsuba will be chasing after it. She didn't break the box or the game. Nuh uh.]

[Whoopsy-daisy! Seeing a need for some minor damage control, Pao-lin sets her food aside and goes to pick up the fallen game board and game pieces. She holds it out to Yotsuba.]

Here you go!

Thank you! [Taking the game back with a happy smile... Which eventually just turns to a bemused look as she turns the game over a few times and tries to make head or tails of it.]

What is it?

Ah... [Pao-lin cranes her head a bit to get a better look at the box.] It's called Snakes and Ladders. I've never played this game before...

Oh... [Looking the box over one more time, and then holding it up to Pao-lin.] I don't either! Wanna play?

Sure! [Adorable green-haired girls unite!] Let's play on that table over there, okay? [She gestures at an empty table nearby.]

[All the adorable right now! Looking over at the table and running off to set the game down, open the box and take out all the pieces.

Once they're all out on the table... More staring. Yotsuba only knows one thing from seeing this game:] I'm gonna be the green one. [Taking the green counter. It's her counter now.]

I'll be yellow, then! [Pao-lin takes the sheet of instructions to look over them and figure out how to play this game.] Oh, I'm Pao-lin, by the way.

My name is Yotsuba, welcome Pao-lin! [Looking up at the back of the sheet of instructions as Pao-lin reads them, as though by staring at the back of the sheet something will happen.] ...Can we play the game now? Is it gonna be fun?

I think it will be! It's really simple. We'll put our pieces here on the first square [she demonstrates with her yellow counter], and then we take turns rolling the die. We move our piece however many spaces that the die tells us to, and if we land on a square with a ladder, we can move our piece up the ladder. But if we land on a snake, we have to go backwards down the snake.

[Nodding along with everything that's being said... Most of that went right over her head. But she can at least move her green piece onto the first square! Leaning over the game board to do that now.]

Avoid the snakes, they're bad! Baaad!! [...] Who died? Why are they telling us to move?

Nobody died! [After placing her own game piece on the first square, she picks up the die and shows it to Yotsuba.] This is called a die. When you roll it, it gives you numbers. [She demonstrates, gently tossing the die onto the table. It shows a five on the top.] See, there are five dots on top of the die, so that means you get to move five spaces.

Ohhhh! So when you die you roll along and you give everyone a number, got it! [...Cough. Yeah, she sort of gets it? Sort of...]

So that means you would move to... [Staring at the board for a moment.] Space number five!

Yep! [It's close enough! She hands the die to Yotsuba.] You can go first.

Okay! [Going to roll this die like a professional, like no other die roller could... Which involves slamming the die down onto the game board, watching as it bounces up into the air and lands back down on the table.

Two. All that for a two. Moving her piece along now.] Did I do good?
