Who: luceti What: See subject title! When: August 14, 2011 Where: The beach! Summary: What's a summer without going on a trip to the beach at least once? Rating: PG13+? Depends, really.
[Sand castle? Sounds boring, but she'll entertain the idea all the same.]
I see. Go ahead and start and I'll follow along once you've already got this sand castle started. [Never made a sand castle before. She'll just copy whats being done when she gets the idea. On the other hand if this just turns out to be some boring human activity, she might just leave.]
[She had been carrying two buckets with her this entire time, so she pushes one over to Yuuka once they find a nice patch of sand to work with.]
Have you ever built one before? [She hums softly, as she starts to fill the pail with sand; patting it down with her hand every so often.] It's been ages since I've made one myself.
[Awkwardly taking the bucket in the hand that isn't holding her parasol, she follows Minako to whatever nice patch of sand she found.]
Gensokyo never had a beach, so it would be correct to assume I have never built a sand castle. [She tries to match what Minako is doing by scooping sand up and dumping it into the bucket, all with one hand. She intends to keep the parasol open and in her hand for this.] Tell me human, what exactly is the point in this? [This isn't gardening, so how can it possibly be fun?]
Gensokyo? [She blinks slowly, finally finishing up the bucket in her hand.] Aaah, I see. I'm glad you took the time to come today, the beach is one of the best places to go during the summer.
[The way Yuuka refers to her as human makes her stops in her tracks for a split second, but a calm smile washes over her just a moment later.]
People often make sculptures out of sand on the beach for fun, or out of competition. Castles are one of the most simple things to make, since -- [she flips her bucket upside down, creating one tower.] -- it consists of mostly towers that can easily be made with a pail.
I used to make these a lot with my brother as a kid, though... I can see how it can be boring.
Is it really now? [Really? Maybe she would enjoy it more if she had decided to dress for the occasion, but right now getting sand all over herself and her clothing doesn't seem that great.]
Simple, well then. If someone such as you can do it... [Looks easy enough. The bucket is filled with sand, and with a quick flick of her hand it's now upside down. Pulling the bucket away however reveals a crumbled mess of sand beneath it.] How incredibly annoying. What in the world did I do wrong, it looks so simple, and you even said so yourself. [She should have patted the sand down more...]
No no, it isn't boring at all~ [It is incredibly boring.] I'm sure it just takes a certain brand of people to enjoy such things. [Like boring people, clearly.]
Well, I might just be a little bias since the beach is my absolute favourite place to go to, but... It's fine if you don't feel that way. I'm just glad that you gave it a chance before ultimately deciding on anything.
[Pausing, and letting out a faint giggle when her tower doesn't stay, she begins to make hand gestures for Yuuka to refer to as she starts on her second tower.]
You need to make sure the sand sticks together by compressing it with your hand; don't worry too much! That used to happen to me a lot too. [a beat, and another smile.] That makes me a simple-minded person, doesn't it? Sorry for dragging you into this.
I find my garden is far superior to this boiling pile of sand, but perhaps I am biased as well then~ [Except not, because in her mind garden > beach forever. Or at least she'll believe she's not biased and that her garden being better than the beach is fact, not bias.]
[Wait. Was that a giggle? Shooting you a quick glare Minako before quickly retrying. She makes a show of beating the sand down with her palm this time before turning the bucket over again. The tower comes out a little lopsided when the pail is removed, but at least it didn't collapse like the last one.]
Is this sufficient for a sandcastle? [Because when she heard sandcastle, Yuuka was expecting something a little better than towers of sand.]
So you like to garden, then? I'd love to see it sometime, if you'll have me. [Flowers were always nice to look at, and with the amount of dedication she seems to have for it; she didn't doubt that it would be nothing short of amazing.]
[If that glare was to send her back, too, it doesn't scare her at all. In fact, she's finding it harder to suppress her giggles.]
One tower isn't enough to make a sandcastle, but it's a good start! It takes a couple of them before it starts to look like a real one, but you're getting a hang of it!
[Ugh... This human is being disgustingly nice to her out of seemingly nowhere, and now wants to come visit her garden.] I do not tend to have visitors. Especially not humans.
[Yup, it's finally got to her. This sandcastle making seems silly, and to top it off there's a human girl giving her thumbs up and giggling and it's too hot! ...
But no, Yuuka isn't one to 'lose her cool'. She's going to bide her time and wait to see if there's any fun of her brand to be had before leaving.]
Then let us make a few more then, so it looks like a spectacular castle~ [Biding time, just biding time. Sandcastle building is fun. Biding time.]
Ah, that's fine, then. [Humming a small tune as she continues on with the building -- if she notices there's something off about the atmosphere, she's doing well in now showing it.]
It's a shame that our hard work will have to go down sooner or later, isn't it? We should take a picture when we're done~
Oh yes, a definite shame~ I will almost be at a loss to see are hard work simply disappear. [That sounded terribly forced, even to her. It's like each word had an extra layer of grace and formality laid over it.
Hm, a picture? Does she really want it to be documented that she spent time playing in the sand with humans? The answer here is a resounding no.]
Indeed, a picture would be wonderful. But let us wait a little longer, there is still much more work here to be done. [Filling the bucket again, making another tower. She's working at a much slower pace to Minako to ensure she does most of the work here.]
It's your first time building one; it'd be a shame to lose the memory.
[It's not hard for Minako to detect the tone; she's not as dense as she appears to be. But she'll play along; it won't hurt her so much if the castle flattens over. It could be made many times over, after all.]
You're right! If I remembered to bring decorations, we could've even placed a flag on top of it...
[Even if it is her first time making a sandcastle, it doesn't make the idea of a picture any more appealing.]
Well just as well I came prepared for such an occasion~
[If she's going to make it seem believable that this sandcastle thing is fun, might as well play the part right. In a few seconds a long stemmed plant with thin, tube-like flowers sprouts from the sand. Plucking the plant from the ground, she pushes it into the top of one of the towers.]
By no means is a chuparosa any substitute for a flag, but perhaps it will be sufficient to make up for the lack of the real thing.
Hey, there! Want to do something together?
