It hadn't been a complete waste since he scrubs up quite nicely, despite acting like a wallflower (when he isn't venturing back and forth to refill his glass of punch) and pulling at his tie every so often and looking very uneasy. But discomfort is something he can deal with -- he certainly doesn't want to come under fire from the lady throwing this bash.

It's been a while since she went out to socialize, though. And she doesn't really know anyone yet, so she'll content herself by people-watching by the punch table... And yes, she does notice that Dr. McCoy has made more than one stop to refill his glass tonight.
She'll give him a small, amused smile when he next stops by.

But when she smiles at him over the table, a thought suddenly occurs to him and his brow knits together thoughtfully as he looks her over. Eyes up, doctor. "... When did you get back?"

She raises her own glass of punch to him a little. "Enjoying your night out, Doctor?" She would tease him about where his eyes were so obviously straying if she were a lesser woman.

Still... pardon him staring in confusion.]

"Looks like they really put some work into this place," she commented appreciatively, taking a seat at a table near the center of everything.

"Kind of small, though." But comparing a night club from a village of three hundred to one in New York was hardly fair.

"Luceti doesn't have the same numbers New York did," she pointed out. "And it's opening night to boot."

He glances around when he enters in an appraising sort of way before catching himself with a chuckle.
"Too used to doing reviews..." he mutters to himself. With a little glance at the hors d'oeurves, he decides to hang around the table for a bit and see if he can strike up a conversation.

So when she sees the fellow with the glasses lingering by the refreshments, it looks like it's time to head in. After reaching for an hors d'oeuvres for herself, she gives him a smile. "Have you tried any of the ones with the mushrooms yet? They're pretty good."

"Thanks for the tip. It's always hard to decide what to try first with a great spread like this."
He takes a bite out of his chosen tidbit and his smile widens. "My compliments to the chef." He says once he's done with that bite, and holds out his free hand. "Clark Kent. Nice to meet you."

Kay smiles back and is about to shake his hand when he actually says his name. At that point, she loses all dignity for one moment, when she about chokes on her own bite of food. His name's Clark Kent? Of course his name's Clark Kent; just look at the man, looks just like in the cartoons they show before pictures.
But once she's coughed once, she's fine and can extend her own hand to shake his. "Excuse me! Kay Eaton--it's a real pleasure, Mr. Kent."

Sure, she's not exactly running out there to make friends, but small steps first. At least she's here.

"Well I sure didn't expect to see you here."

"Perhaps taking people by surprise is a hobby of mine, Mr Horner."
Horner, Mr Horner, or Jack. One day she'll settle on the one.
