[Jack Sparrow wakes up in the same place---and position---he has been standing in for over the last 24 hours or so: trapped in a pillory as punishment for crimes committed against Nami and Zoro.

In the middle of the plaza.

And when his eyes open, he remembers everything. Everything. And just wants a]

buggering first class ticket out of this buggering blasted blighted LUCETI.

[But Sparrow can. All of his memories were quite clear and delineated and sharp in focus. He says nothing; just worries his nails against the wood of the device he's trapped in--a habit he developed the day before and had been engaged in all night long.]

[ it takes her another stretch of silence to hear the worrying and she looks up -- at first just to identify the sound and then, once she sees his nails on the wood -- just to frown. ]

That can't be good for them. [ the urge is there, of course. to reach up and do something. protect. look after. arrange. small, little gestures that had persisted so strongly throughout those days. ]

Hmmm? What? [Sparrow is honestly unaware that he has been doing anything. So many nice voices chattering on in his head just now, covering up those memories with commentary. His nails are worn down, not bleeding, but there are signs that they have been, recently.]

Nails on wood -- clawing, like that. You'll ruin them.

[ her thoughts caught up to her words seconds later. nails on wood. bloody hands -- they had been the worst part of the nightmares towards the end and she hadn't been able to understand them again until now. because buffy summers spoke from complete experience. clawed her way out of the grave, after all. ]

[He does. But a few seconds later, he starts up again.]

Jack...[ and this time she does reach up and it's the first she has touched him since he had gifted her that kiss over the cufflinks; they had kept so firmly apart on the morning of his wedding, after all. ]

That's neither direct nor stopping. [ her fingers close over just one of his hands. ]

Right. Sorry. [His hands stay right where they are, of course---there is no choice when a tight wooden yoke is holding them in place.]

[ there is little else she wants more than to break the man free but she won't do so on her own. it seems like the kind of thing that almost needed permission -- especially after the experiment.

perhaps it will be better for the both of them for her to simply uninvolve herself. let him get free whatever way he would and then they could...well, she isn't sure about that. she doesn't know where he stands other than probably rather uncomfortably. ]

I kinda didn't expect to see you so soon. [ which maybe sounds like she was planning to avoid him. hmm. ] I mean -- I was gonna get the house straightened out first and then maybe...well, if you were free I was gonna...[ just spit it out! ]

[ call you up. i was gonna call you up and ask you for some patience and would you please rsvp on a curry dinner date. but doesn't now need some kind of extra gravity? like so casual an offer -- though correctly indicative of her desire to move on and catch back up to themselves -- somehow isn't right. ]

[There's a laugh and then the nails start in again, wearing their little grooves into the wood, or wearing wood into the skin, or both.]

The similarities do keep cropping up in this eerie and mostly unbelievable way.
