Time to Talk - Fabled Countryside [Open; unfinished]

Feb 27, 2006 11:37

It had taken far too long for Adam to finally snap out of his apathetic state, but when he did, the fear, confusion, and anger had hit him with colossal force. There were too many unanswered questions about that night. His memory remained fragmented and the few things he could recall filled him with terrible dread. He couldn't stand it any longer. Belle had finished tending to Phillipe after returning from the village, and she decided to go check on her husband. Even if he wasn't ready to talk, she still spent time with him every day. She didn't feel it could do any harm, at least.

She turned the corner to Adam's bedroom, but stopped as the door swung open. It was good to finally see her husband getting about, but she sensed he was not in the best of moods.

"Adam, I was just coming to see you. Is everything all right?"

Adam turned at the familiar voice and was immediately on her. His powerful paws gripped her shoulders as he thrust his face into hers. His eyes were only inches away from hers and for a brief moment they were filled with dangerous intention. The glimpse of anger broke and what lay before her were the eyes of desperation and fear.

"Belle," his voice was low and painfully serious. "We have to talk. Now."

Belle was taken aback by her husband's ferocity, and it took her a moment to stammer out a reply.

"Uh-of course, Adam," she said with a nervous smile. The transition from anger to fear in his eyes made her worry. He could never hide it from her when something was wrong. She continued with a bit more concern in her voice.

"Do you want to talk here, or did you want to walk somewhere?"

Adam looked down and suddenly and realized he was gripping her. He released her at once looking mildly startled. He hadn't hurt her by any means, but he never lay his hands on her like that. After a brief moment, he gestured towards the bedroom he had just left as a place for discussion. He didn't much care where they spoke, so long as it was in private ( ... )

Belle played with a fingernail nervously as she tried to recall the events of that night. It wasn’t the remembering that was difficult in itself, but the act of remembering was painful to her, and she knew it would be worse for Adam. Hiding the truth would do neither of them any good, so she simply hoped the blow would not land too harshly ( ... )

As soon as Belle began talking, Adam's frame grew still. His heart was pounding hard inside his chest as she warned him to let her finish. When his suspicions of attacking an old friend - and the Keyblade Master, no less - were confirmed, he could only look to the floor in quiet astonishment. This was undeniable proof that he had become a monster. And he wasn't just the beastly master of the castle he had been years ago. This was far worse.

He was suddenly ready to bolt. His breath quickened and his pulse raced. The room suddenly took on a claustrophobic air to it and he wanted nothing more than to break free and run. He felt like he was going to explode.

But Belle's final words stopped everything cold.

He raised his head and looked at her, completely shocked. "What..?"
