No One Mourns the Wicked -- Traverse Town (COMPLETE)

Jun 27, 2005 23:19

The only noise that could be heard was that of the fountain trickling, water gently dropping into a stone basin. Glowing lights illuminated the otherwise dark district of the town, the gentle neon flickering every few moments. All was still, with the exception of the one figure, by the fountain ( Read more... )

Kefka hummed to himself, ignoring his surroundings as he did when engrossed in thought. It often took something near catestrophic to distract him when he got this way. Some of his best creations had come from this mode of thinking ( ... )

Kefka's eyes widended in suprise. Simple physics should have made what the stranger did impossible...halting the missle that fast should have ripped...something. The thought elusded Kefka as his giddiness returned.

This was more fun than he'd had in a long time...since killing members of SeeD, really.

Kefka sent a blue spark into the air, which became a wall of fire to meet the fragments of his former weapon; the ice melted and harmlessly splashed to the ground.

"hmm" he says simply. "Fire to ice...shall we go to round two?"

he shrunk the wall into a flowing stream of fire, intertwining it with a new stream: a stream of lightning. Together, they rushed towards the robed stranger.

The wizard remained still. This battle was, as much as he hated to admit it, enjoyable. He knew for a fact he wouldn't be defeated by this clown, unless he happened to be holding unparalleled powers up his sleeve. Highly doubtful. Fai let his power trickle out a little more with each spell he cast, slowly getting himself more powerful. Then this hooligan would see ( ... )

Kefka's eyes narrowed as he cut off the feed to the fire, but by then the fireball was headed back in his direction.

The force of the explosion threw Kefka back, but he managed to levitate and stop himself before being damaged. As he spun upright in midair, he raised both red finger-nailed hands, and extended his index finger on both, twiriling them upwards in the air.

In responce, the ground beneath the stranger rippled, and thick vines and roots, as think as a human leg each with sharp thorns on thme, rose up from the ground to begin to twine around the cloaked man.

He chuckled as the fire died down. The roots were already wrapping around him, but he didn't take notice. As the last of the flames vanished, only littles jolts of static were left. He smiled as he looked up towards the floating clown ( ... )

Kefka, gripped in the shockwaves of electricity, gave a wordless yell of pain as he flew back, his floating spell dissipating as he fought to redirect the engery away from him...to not much avail ( ... )

He merely blinked as the flash rang through the square. He had grown accustomed to brightness -- casting his spells around glaciers of ice caused more brightness than one could ever imagine. He shook it off quickly, in time to see a dagger headed his way. Unfortunately, it dropped to the ground feet before even reaching its target. Fai looked down at it and laughed heartily. This was getting weak ( ... )

Kefka blinked at the temper mention. Damn...another round in their game then. It had been a fleeting hope anyways that this strong of a mage wouldn't recognize him. He dropped the idea of pretending to not speak the language too well...just a waste of time at this point.

He answered in a magically altered gravely voice, accepting the offered hand and getting to his feet. "Who was th....yeah, she went that way," Kefka pointed towards the first district alley way. "Wait, that was a man?"

Kefka was broiling on the inside as he gave voice to all the confusions people normally voiced to him...before haveing their throats slit.

He chuckled a little bit, pulling the man to his feet. "Yes, yes indeed it was..." He turned to face the hole to the first district, noting its slightly busier atmosphere. It was surprising nobody had stumbled upon their battle only moments before. Looking to this illusion of a man, he smiled.

"No matter," he said softly. "He won't get too far with that attitude. No one mourns the wicked, after all..."

He released his grip from the clown's false impression, and began to walk slowly towards the first district.

"Farewell, stranger. May your days be pleasant."

Kefka's lips pressed into a thin line as the stranger walked away. After watching him go, Kefka turned back and went into the 2nd District proper, survaying the damage from the battle.

Damn...that was embarrasing.

The giddiness, so recently gone for those last few seconds returned, and his mind was abuzz. He dropped his illusion, and hummed lightly as he probed at the damage, studying the magic the stranger had used.

his researcher's instics served him well, and he was able to quickly study the spells. Suddenly, others entered the district to look at the damage. Kefka quickly raised his half-cape, which was connected to his wrists, and wrapped it before him.

It was pure aesthetics, but he did it anyways. he put an illusion of invisibility around him....it would last till he could get away from these...peon of people.

He hurried towards somewhere. Anywhere. He could come back later. The residue of the magic was strong enough that it would last long enough...till he was rested.

He smiled as he realized the clown dropped his illusion. He could feel the aura expanding, revealing its true self. And he knew that the jester would be searching for any scraps of evidence to help him learn more about his own magic.

And so, with a simple snap of his fingers, the area returned to its former glory.

Smiling, he continued towards the center of the First District.

This journey is proving to be more interesting than I expected...
