[There was a phone booth here. It's gone now. In fact, he doesn't remember a church at all. It's not exactly reassuring. Something very strange and very bad must have happened, for him to just wake up somewhere else without any explanation. Which is definitely on his short list of things he didn't want to happen today. But, he can't find out what ( Read more... )

Template. For some folks, it's an afterlife.

[Dot dot dot. Oh. That explains it, doesn't it? Still, he'll wait until he gets more concrete evidence.]

Template, huh? That's an interesting name for a city. This isn't one of those weird dreams, is it?

[He's starting to really hope it is.]

Sometimes I kinda wish it were that simple. But no. Sorry.

[Ah, well. Couldn't blame a guy for trying.]

I guess it could be worse.

[Rude's walking by and notices the new arrival wandering around and decides to offer a hand.]

New here?

[Nods.]

This is definitely a long way from home.

[Oh, and the other one mentioned he might be dead. Just a small thing like that, really.]

[Rude nods, making a slight face that resembels a failed smirk, the corner of his mouth moving to the side slightly before he holds out a leather clad hand]

Name's Rude.

[Shakes the offered hand with his own non-gloved, somewhat scabby hand.]

Maes Hughes. I'd tell you my rank, Lieutenant Colonel, but I'm starting to get the feeling it's not so important here.

[Great. How could he get anywhere without pulling rank? He's sure he'll think of something...]

Heh. Great, another one.

Another one? Is there someone else like me here?

[After hearing the afterlife theory, anything is possible.]

Try a whole city full of them.

[:O]

Well, this'd make for an interesting drinking game.

[He wants to go home, but he's getting the very distinct feeling and the slightly less distinct memory that it's probably not physically possible.]

'Here' is unfortunately a long, long way from home.

[Grumble.]

I've noticed. [Sigh.] I really hope I can get home soon. I've got important people waiting for me there.

[Slight smile.]

Me too, my superior is probably having kittens by now. [Laughs at that.]

But don't worry! I'm sure we'll get out of here sooner or later, and someone told me that when they got back to their world, it was like no time had passed at all! So you'll be fine! [Sparklesparkle!]

I hope my wife and daughter are holding up all right...

[If those homunculi got to them, they won't know what hit them until there's a dozen knives in their bodies.]

[Still, he smiles a bit.]

I'll keep my eyes open. If I figure out how to get back, I'll try to spread the word.

Looks like you're new here...Geeze this place certainly is picking up isn't it?

Welcome to Template.

[Shrugs.]

I wouldn't know anything about that.

[Slight grin. There's so many people here. People who haven't heard of his wife. And his daughter. Maybe this won't be so bad, then.]

Thanks, I think. I'm in one piece and breathing, and I've got all my photographs, so things could definitely be worse.

Well if you keep up an attitude like that then yes, things could definitely be much, much worse. You could be in several pieces.

Though, from what I've gathered this is a semblance of an afterlife. Many of those who arrive have died. Scientifically speaking it's the worst outcome for any plant, animal or person, to deal with. Never thought that the after life would be anything like this sort.

[Dot. Dot. Dot. Not good. Definitely not good. Second person to bring up the afterlife idea, and what he remembers last is....]

So that's why nobody seems to be able to go home.

[Grumble, but he still looks fairly animated.]

Looks like I've got a lot of work to do, figuring this place out and everything. Sigh. I hope I'm not missing anything important.

[He probably is, given his friends. And he's already missing his family. This is going to suck majorly.]
