For this expedition, Rude seemed to have been handed the worthy role of pack animal, and with no more sentiment than the slightest of frowns, he slung the large backpack that had been sitting on the floor of the helicopter over his shoulder. Thankfully basically everything in that pack was useful--potions, water bottles, and the like--so he didn't really mind dragging it around.

And he supposed if he got really sick of carrying it all, he could always put the backpack on Lucrecia and see if she fell over.

With that mildly amusing thought in mind, he hopped out of the helicopter and checked himself over to make sure his gun and extra sunglasses were still safely in place as he waited for everyone else to get ready.

Shera had remained silent for the trip, eyes taking in details of the helicopter first and foremost before moving to the rest of the party once another few 'routine' reviews of the aircraft (and then a few more) had taken place. She remained quiet, excessively vigilant, as the vehicle heaved and lurched to touchdown in ways the petite woman was unaccustomed to. It was not Reno's piloting skills necessarily (although the red-head could be reckless, a trait she had observed in a lot of men) it was more from having spent so long aboard her namesake. It was all too easy to forget about the wake turbulence that was generated from the rotor system of a lighter aircraft with dual blades.

Of course this brought her thoughts back to Cid. Why she had come out here (...that was deeply personal, things had not been particularly productive with her husband as of late, and with her apparent illness worsening...) was Kunsel, the SOLDIER that they had picked up a little while back had suggested she come along in case there was a need for her ( ... )

Well well well, Yuffie was amused at the brilliantly logo'd ShinRa helicopter. They came by her country and didn't even bother to say hi? Of course, phone lines weren't very great these days. She'd been meaning to call Rufus and check in... maybe she'd do that after she made sure these idiots didn't get themselves lost or hurt. Didn't they know the temples were haunted?

"Hey Turkeys! What, can't stop by and say hi to a lady?" She sniffed in the air and looked from Shelke to Kunsel to Lucrecia before she scooped Cait up in a hug and nodded to Shera. "It's been too long."

Cait Sith squawked as the ninja dragged the automaton's little body into submission within her arms. Something was wanting to cry out in the cat - perhaps circuitry, perhaps something else - but whatever the actuality, there were rules an' boundaries between women and men!

Whilst the automaton was not clearly of one gender or t'other it was still embarrassing to be molly-coddled so. And by YUFFIE of all people. "Gruurk, lemme be lassie!" White gloved hands scrabbled to gain freedom, the playback to Reeve perhaps to be a little disturbing given Cait Sith's position...

"We haftae move! So hush up an' let Cait Sith think! Er jus' letme down! 'Naywhere but here!" The last couple of sentences were muffled against Yuffie's chest.

Yuffie lifted Cait to look into his eyes. "Oh calm down, you're a kitty, deal with being cuddled. Reevey made you cuddly." She did, however, put him down gently.

"If you guys are going into the ruins, I'd better go with you. This isn't the friendliest place."

Reno took his time shutting down and disabling the helicopter, it wouldn't do to leave it with the proverbial keys in the ignition for whatever pain in the ass wutai native came along. This was one of his babies, not that he'd ever say that to anyone other than Rude.

"Alright ladies and cats, the faster we get this over with the faster we get to go home." He said, slithering from the pilots seat at last. He glared and shook his head at Yuffie's appearance, but it was her country after all. Her choice to wander around in the backwater recesses of it.

The little lass would have a hard time looking into Cait Sith's eyes, being as they nearly always were mere black lines, cracks that showed nothing of any real sentience. The cat huffed, then squirmed, hissing out a broad "Yer insane. Cait Sith ain't made for cuddles..." yet even as Yuffie dropped him to the floor white gloved paws still clung to her bootlaces.

Jumping up on the spot as Yuffie danced away to Shelke, Cait Sith threw up his hands and shook his head dramatically. "It's like the wee annoyin' girlie says, but ne'er fear, I'm here t'help! Lesse now..." Boots followed one another he turned 360 degrees nigh on the same spot until the still slightly motor-impaired automaton cat promptly tripped over itself and fell on it's butt.

"Thatta way~" Cait waved to the eastern path and turned pointedly to Reno "Now who's gonna give me a ride?"

Reno sighed, rolling his eyes at the robotic cat's fall. "Just because my hair's red doesn't make me your ride." He scowled, crouching anyway for it to climb on his back. "Just don't go pulling it all out alright?"

Cait Sith broke into a grin "Mr. Mog was pink! Pink or red, aye, yer ain't Nanaki, but you'll haftae do." The automaton cat crawled up Reno, struggling a bit at the distance between the waistband of his trousers and shoulder. Of course that meant scrabbling over the back of his jacket.

There may even have been a few tugs upon the red tail.

As soon as Cait Sith reached a shoulder to perch on, white gloved hands flailed over Reno's eyes and face, to gather a hold.

What little records there were of the Ancients dwellings and facts about thus were neatly filed away in Shelke's memory. Though she had never seen any exacting ancient artifact of the people with her own eyes she had seen the pictures, maps, and notes that scientists had jotted down about their thoughts and studies of the culture from ShinRa files. Shelke had rid herself of the map provided of the area around them for she had that memorized, and opted for looking out on the grandiose scenery. Perhaps in accompanying these people she could find out something about them that was never written down in those documents. They were the people who had the most profound connection to the Lifestream ( ... )

"Hey, Shelke!" Yuffie pranced over and offered a hand to the other woman. "So, what all you got on our temple? I'll fill in the blanks!" Unlike Shelke, Yuffie had grown up around the temples, she'd dealt with the complexity of their rituals and had been grounded more than once for trespassing and being otherwise disrespectful to them.

Of course, that was a long time ago. "This one ahead of us is called in common, the Temple of Trials. It was sort of-" she thought "-well what someone who wanted to become a great warrior would go through. Everything moves and divots around, every year a few idiots end up dying because they bit off more than they could chew."

She took to picking a way through the forest, knowing that the others would follow her. Turks were silly and liked to party sure, but this was a job and they were aggravatingly professional. "And the locals out here are still very anti-anything-that-may-be-ShinRa. We're working on it, but some of these hillljacks still believe in demons and the like."

It seemed as though the gaps that their map did not provide were to be filled in with a native tour-guide or sorts. Shelke glanced at the girls hand uncertain what purpose it was offered to her for, and then she looked back up at the strange girl. Since Yuffie decided to lead the way Shelke followed shortly after.

"Given that everything moves, it would be unwise for us to proceed inside as a large group." She added on to Yuffie's given information. "I find that would be the only problem, it is unlikely any demons or the alike are inside."

As for what they had on the temple itself there was only one question that they had no answer to. The group had a map of the temples perimeter and a rough estimation of the inside from previous experiences, they also had tidbits from the ShinRa database about the area. "We are here to ascertain if this place has any connection to the Lifestream."

Yuffie thought a moment. She let out a soft "hrm" as though she had more information. Knowing Yuffie, however, that may or may not be true. "So, maybe I am greatful I took all those stuffy history courses..."

She smirked again. "I don't really believe in demons myself either. BUT, we'll see. Come on, this place sort of creeps me out. They used to do sacrifices in this clearing."

She waved ahead and then smiled up at Shelke. She'd had a bit of a soft spot for the other woman and wanted to be kind to her. "How have you been, Shelke?"

RANDOM ENCOUNTER - Vajradhara Cala lsr_boo May 5 2010, 01:27:17 UTC
The monster howls and a massive tomahawk boomerang barrels down the jungle. The creature is tall and barrel chested. It returns without hitting anyone, and makes a loud slap as it is caught. The beast snarls again and rushes at the party.

"Shit, we don't have time for this..." Reno muttered, watching the tomahawk sail past and back.

"Really don't have time..."

Rude's head snapped to look in the direction of sound of the tomahawk smacking through leaves, watching it as it continued on it's course, thankfully without causing any real damage to the group.

He was close enough to hear Reno's comment, and couldn't agree more.

"Great," he muttered, then addressed to Reno, "Don't suppose it'll go away if we just ignore it."

Shera also jumped slightly as the sound of branches being whipped echoed above their heads, but her inner critic stilled her. She had stood her own in some impossible situations, and relied upon such ability to work under pressure time and time again.

Though this was different. Not combat trained in the slightest, her limbs drew together as her small frame appeared to shrink down even further. Tutting at herself, she knelt to the floor and unfastened her toolkit. She couldn't not survive. She had to get back to the Captain.

Nimbly her fingers sorted through the layers, pulling out a soldering iron, inset with a green orb. Materia use was frowned down upon, but it helped to have a decent source of energy in certain situations where there was not other sources to hand. Gripping the insulated handle she stood back up and took a deep breath.
