"Christians don't tell lies, they just go to church and sing them!" - AW Tozer.
Matthew 15:7-8. Read it.

Buh? Did someone do something? I don't think I've been a hypocrite in the last 24 hours, that I know of...

It's not a rebuke

It's just a quote that hit me and a scripture to go along with it

Unless you need a rebuke, which you don't based on your last 24 hours

The LORD is my shepherd,
I'll have no reason for want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures
He leads me beside waters of peace.
He restores my soul. (RIN)

Good reminder. I get tired of all the promises in modern worship songs. Most of them are things I know I can't keep. It's like the words are big promises to show depth of feeling or the like, but the songs come out sounding like a little child screaming "I love you" at the top of his lungs when he really has no idea what real love means. Volume & repetition do not add depth. Where are the real songs in which people struggle for faith, victory, and a life of difficult choices?

I would have to know some examples, because I do not feel that way about modern music at all

Actually, the post really isn't making a point about music - the point is moreso that we should, as Christians, be able to sing those songs confidently instead of feeling like hypocrites when we do. In other words, that's how we SHOULD be living. The problem is with us, not the music.

What I'm referring to:

Stuff like, "I will give you all my worship, I will give you all my praise."
From Amazing Love: "In all I do, I honor you."

I know I don't do this. I don't believe it's even possible except by the Spirit, and I still don't feel comfortable making promises on behalf of God.

You made a good point that we are the imperfect ones. But are the "perfect" songs really relevant in an imperfect world? Anyway, for my own preference I think I will choose not to sing songs that I cannot back up with action. I may have to check out some of the music you're talking about.
