I just learned yesterday that someone I knew back in Vermont when I lived there and was a Police Explorer got arrested. He'd been drinking and fired a shot gun in his parent's house. Nobody else was there and there was a stand off with the cops but he did surrender and is on a psych hold. He's been dealing with depression ( Read more... )

This reminds me of when I was working at a GED program and one of my students was a 50-year-old woman who worked SO HARD to earn her GED. She increased her reading level from 2nd grade to 8th grade in less than a year! We were working on getting her tested out when I left that job. I was so proud of her.

A year later I read in the newspaper that she was arrested for firing a shotgun at the side of a house. Alcohol was involved.

I was so disappointed.
