I've never wanted to be the kind of person who only works for money. I work damn hard at all kinds of things without expecting a cent. If I were a 'money is the be-all and end-all' kind of person, I never would have become a teacher

Nothing wrong with a good cry. You can't hold yourself up to unattainable standards - you'll send yourself mental, but the fact that you care so much speaks volumes. I don't envy you at all because it sounds like shitty work, but having people like you there rather than just people like him has to count for something.
Thanks. I'd like to think that's true. Everyone else on the staff is conscientious and do their best, but we're always up against obstacles and we have no damn support or leadership. A school needs effective management. It's about the only place I'd have to say that really, truly, has to have one person (or a couple of people, maybe), as the go-to guy.
Having suffered an incredibly poor boss and children with multiple problems (sometimes the deafness was the least of their worries) I completely empathise. My problem was resolved when the school closed and I had to find another job (with an AWESOME boss), but, yeah, poor leadership in education is a killer. I'm so sorry you're having to cope with it.
There are so many different problems the school faces, and yeah, I know that next year will have to be better, because we're definitely getting a new Principal (but we don't know if they'll be temporary for the year, or someone hired to the permanent position available.) But at the moment, I just want the next 6 weeks to evaporate.
You don't need a hug, you need a medal! You're doing this amazingly hard job, that the majority of people out there wouldn't be willing or able to do...and you're still trying even though someone in a position of authority is making it that much harder for you.
It's almost xmas holiday, I hope it's a hundred times better next year and you come back feeling less disheartened.
*sends a hug* I don't know if it helps to think about this at all, but that's a very natural place to be mentally at this point in the school year, no matter where you teach- the survival place. Especially as a new-ish teacher. It can't help to have admin making things harder than they have to be, But most people go through that sort of time with teaching. Both you and your students are learning things that make life easier and better down the line. Learning can be a pain, of course.- so get a lot of hugs.
Yeah, I'm sure part of it is just that it's been a long, hard working year with lots of new things to adjust to (having to wait 5 weeks for supplies, having no decent vegetables at the store, dealing with language barrier issues.) But Mr. 40 Years has not helped things at all.
I mostly think of him as this guy who plays in celebrity golf tournaments now. But every once in awhile "Sick Things" or "I Love the Dead" comes to mind. ;-) Ah, when shock rock was still innocent.

(And, wow, I haven't heard Alice Cooper described as awesome in many a year. Takes me back, it does. . . . )

Poison is a great song! Who can't love a song with the lyric, "I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name"?! Ahhh, misogyny.
