I have a package winging its way to me from my family and I can't wait for it to get here because it has some plastic containers in it all for me.

One of the very worst things - and I am deadly serious, here - the very worst things, of being in Central Australia is that my cereal keeps getting infested with ants ( Read more... )

Put the box in the fridge. Seriously, that or sprinkle cinnamon all around the possible access points. They're hard to keep down!

The box is too big to put in the fridge, that's why I need the plastic containers. :D

Thanks for the advice!

I've read all kinds of books about "frontier" living and not one of them ever mentioned the importance of Tupperware.

Boric Acid works a treat but I don't know if you want to kill the little buggers or not -- unlike any of the manufactured ant killers it is not toxic to you unless you get a sudden craving to eat it by the spoonful for breakfast instead of your muesli.

I second the boric acid. We had tons of it around when I was little (and before you ask, no, I didn't ingest it, and that doesn't explain some things about me, thanks ;) ), because we had roach problems in a few places I lived. It worked!

Maybe they are just hungry?
Give them a slap up meal of, oh, steak or something?
*g*

There were ants in my first rented house in York. Crawling around in all the cupboards, in the fridge, over the work surface. If you wanted to have some jam on toast you had to be prepared to squish ants with the jam-jar while you were doing it, after first scraping them off its rim. Nice.

*wonders who else will get the THANTS reference* :D

I'm used to ants - I get them all the time in Adelaide - just not in my sodding cereal :( Two half packets ruined!

No one. That reference was just for you.

I got it too, actually :-p

I prefer ants that stay outside. Preferably underground.
