I'm so close to being done with you, fandom

1) Big bangs have been full of fail this year, haven't they? First we had the J2 Haiti fic, then the Catholic!Gabe bandom fic, and now there's a transphobic, misogynistic and just plain creepy Panic fic. sinuous_curve wrote a public post about the aspects of the fic that made her uncomfortable, the author of the fic was linked to this post and accused fandom ( Read more... )

i'm surrounded by idiots, the gaslight anthem

Gaslight is AWESOME live, I hope you have a great time! And dude, totally get tickets to The National if you can, they are unbelievable live.

I've only read snippets of her BBB, but that was more than enough. I felt so creeped out by her Zack characterisation. D: I don't understand how she went from missing the point but being, you know, sane in sinuous_curve's post to this.

I'm so excited! I'm pretty sure that my expression throughout their set will be in between :DDDDDDDDD and *____________*

That makes sense as the warnings wank was the last time I felt this frustrated and angry. :/

1) i haven't read her fic but by the response i see i shouldn't have wasted my time. i think as a writer she's above average (well with the frank/gerard fics i've read) but her defence to think this argument was about her is really wrong. bandom has seen a lot of shit and it wouldn't be so childish to immerse itself into pointless things of smeraing an author's name in the mud. everyone involved in the little 'wank' about it had valid points and had rights to be pissed off when such a fragile issue is raised and completely destroys somebody's feelings and experiences by belittling them in such a brazen and misogynistic fashion.

i'm just actually going to leave that alone now because it makes me angry. a lot.

2) :D

3) i'm not very informed on politics :(

4) \o/

I think the problem is that she made it personal. I understand that having your fic criticized can be hurtful, but she made the argument about her instead of about the issues in the fic. She took it as an attack on her, even though no one said she was transphobic or misogynistic. Clearly she didn't understand that and instead lashed out in an awful way. I'm still dumbfounded by some of what she said.

I know how you feel. I actually had a lot more to say on the subject, but I was too angry to write any more. But if you want to read more from someone who's far more eloquent than me, I recommend this post: http://globalfruitbat.livejournal.com/234285.html

Oh, and I totally forgot to reply to your comment about tattoos. I actually got mine done in Sheffield. ihearttattoos has a shops recommendations tag and I've seen people ask about London before, but you have to join the community.

i gotta be honest -- while reading the author's post about it, i started to feel a little bad for her and agreed with her initial point that if people took offense (and i totally understand why they did), they could have commented directly to her about it first. either privately or publicly. AND THEN made a post about it in their own journal. i do agree she should have been given the chance to explain/apologize or whatever.

...is what i thought until she went ahead and compared the legit criticisms of her fic to GANG RAPE. UMMMM, NO YOU DID NOT. after that sentence, i stopped feeling bad for her. the fic itself could have been simple ignorance but deliberately choosing to equate valid concerns with GANG RAPE is crossing the fucking line, ugh ugh ugh.

I would agree if sinuous_curve hadn't made it clear that she made that post because she was too angry to directly reply to RE. I didn't have a problem with her talking about it in her LJ because posting about things that bother you is what LJ's for. But as much as the fic apparently failed, I did understand why she was hurt.

I may not have agreed with her arguments on SC's post but she was handling it pretty well. I honestly don't understand how she went from that to posting something so offensive on her own journal. :\
