Does anyone else have trouble with confusing Helen Hunt, Laura Dern, and Laura Linney? Or is that one just me?

Exciting discovery: Helen Hunt was in an extremely cheesy teen dancing movie from the '80s called Girls Just Want To Have Fun -- she was about 22 at the time, and played an extremely quirky high schooler who seems to have a nice slashy ( Read more... )

you crack me up. Seriously, this post made me "LOL"

I have never confused these actresses myself, but could see how they could get confused.

I *heart* Girls Just Want to have Fun. I found it at 4 oclock in the morning on one of those days where my gall bladder hates me.

Have you seen Citizen Ruth? It's Laura Dern in a satire of abortion rights battles...very snarky, entertaining etc. Also starring Swoosie Kurtz!

I haven't seen Citizen Ruth, but I still somehow use it to differentiate her from the other two -- "no, she's not Helen Hunt, she's the one who wore a foam statue of liberty hat in that kooky independent film!"

Girls Just Want to Have Fun wins at life, despite having a seriously iffy plot and lots of wooden acting. It's really all about the slash potential between Helen Hunt's character and Sarah Jessica Parker's character. Oh, plus a brain-melting appearance from a pre-pubescent Shannon Doherty . . . scary.

The place I mostly know Laura Linney from is the "Tales of the City" miniseries . . . es. All three of them. She was mostly very cute.

Yeah, I've been meaning to watch those, mainly for Paul Gross, but the Laura Linney thing makes them even more appealing.

I really wish I had your problems! ;-) (j/k)

Incidentally, I sort of vaguely watched Twister on Sunday when it was on TV. I love the scene in the barn near the end ("Who are these people?!")

The heterosexist bits around the physical bits of action still annoy the hell out of me, but I guess they're par for the course in action flicks.

Yeah, I didn't mention the other similarity between Jurassic Park and Twister -- sturdy dark-haired guy plays manly rescuer to not-quite-tough-enough blond chick, winning her swoony little heart. Ah, well.

I think there's also a theme in both movies about scientific brilliance leading to practical stupidity, leading to near-death (or death).

Better to focus on the tank tops. *g*

Sorry, I'm hijacking your thread to say hi (HI!) and see how things are. I haven't seen/talked with you for a very, very long time.

Hi! Things are very up and down . . . I'm still waiting to hear back about grad school applications, which is nerve-wracking. And the endlessness of winter is starting to get me down . . . although today it's warmer, it's also raining that dreary March kind of drippy rain.

How are things with you?

I just added you - mainly just because I am another "big fucking queer" poet living in the midwest. Hi! I hope it's ok. ;)
