Does anyone else have trouble with confusing Helen Hunt, Laura Dern, and Laura Linney? Or is that one just me?
Exciting discovery: Helen Hunt was in an extremely cheesy teen dancing movie from the '80s called
Girls Just Want To Have Fun -- she was about 22 at the time, and played an extremely quirky high schooler who seems to have a nice slashy crush on Sarah Jessica Parker's character at their Catholic school. Among other interesting wardrobe choices, her plaid uniform skirt is reversible, and the other side is black leather.
While watching the movie, I kept trying to figure out if Helen Hunt is the one I've had a crush on since
Twister, and yes, indeed, she is. I totally had a thing for that white sleeveless undershirt she wore through a large portion of the movie (including while soaking wet, IIRC). The trick, though, is that Laura Dern (who doesn't look that much like Helen Hunt except for being blond and about the same age) is the one I've had a crush on since
Jurassic Park, which has some key similarities to Twister -- namely, sleeveless shirts, tough smart blonds, and life-threatening situations.
Laura Linney, on the other hand, looks very much like Helen Hunt, IMO, but I know her more for her dramatic roles, like Kinsey's wife in Kinsey, the mother in The Squid in the Whale, her heartbreaking role in You Can Count On Me, where I first saw her . . . In fact, I've mostly seen her playing some guy's wife, mother, sister, or some combination of the three, and making lots of emotionally wrenching faces -- which, I'll note, she's very good at.
But then Helen Hunt confused matters by playing Haley Joel Osmond's emotionally-wrenching-face-making stripper mom in Pay It Forward. Why do they keep messing with my head? Not fair.
