Thousand Letters Till Eternity

A/N: I started this ages for Minako month over at sm_monthly  (the prompt being “alternate career path”), but then things happened and the fic was dropped by the wayside. It was supposed to be a huge, multi-chaptered thing, epistolary novel style, but I don’t think it has the stamina to sustain several chapters, so a one- ( Read more... )

Oh I LOVE this. Really I do. I love the idea of Minako as an archeologist. High intelligence plus instinctive plus not afraid to get dirty. It sounds like her!

Also I am super-impressed by how you tell a story via correspondence. I have a hard time finding stories through letters interesting a lot of the time, and I have a hard time writing it myself, but you do it so effortlessly. It really gives a sense of what is going on back home while also highlighting some of the characters (like how Rei only says what she considers important).

Does Endymion know you’re back?” She fished a bottle of water out of her bag and took a big gulp.
His reaction was that of incredulity. “Shouldn’t you try to find out whether I’m evil before you ask me that?”
“Oh Jadeite,” Minako whispered, a dangerous gleam in her eyes and a knowing smile on her lips, “if you were, I wouldn’t have allowed you to come within ten metres of me.”Ha! Love it ( ... )

I'm glad you like the idea. I was thinking about what Minako could do that is not related to the media and I somehow stumbled over archaeology and the idea stuck.

The fic was originally planned as consisting of the first few paragraphs in proper prose and then to be followed by letters only, but I realised at some point that it would limit the V/K reunion scene in the end (and would make the fic really, really long), so I changed it around a bit. I do love the letter writing though, ( ... )

I am loving this! I'm stuck here at home because the roads are too difficult to be traveling on right now, so I needed something to cheer me up (by the way the moment it started snowing I thought of you since you seem to love snow so much ^^) Anyway, there are so many reasons that I love this fic ... Minako being an archeologist being one o the main ones. I find it a little sad that Minako and Mamoru have such a difficult time getting along, but then that is how I've always viewed their relationship anyway. Now I'm off to read the second part ^____^

Wow, you must have a lot of snow and ice! Just be careful when you do have to venture out, we all prefer you in one happy and unharmed piece!

And you're right, it is sad that Minako and Mamoru don't get along, but there is just as much that could unite them as there is that can keep them from being friends, and ultimately, they're just too stubborn and proud.

“Oh Jadeite,” Minako whispered, a dangerous gleam in her eyes and a knowing smile on her lips, “if you were, I wouldn’t have allowed you to come within ten metres of me.”

I love you for a million years for that line.

I can't help but think that you only love me because I didn't let them smexx. ;)

I was scared there for a minute. A long minute. A long, stressful, horrifying minute. Then I read that R/J are cute and smexxy and now I'm not convinced that you actually wrote this at all. Did someone hack your account?

And I'm totally with Spirit: I love how you wove the letters into the narrative, and kept that little animosity between Minako and Mamoru in there.

Jim is awesome and I love the way you introduced him. And while I'm gushing, another thing that I loved is how she is digging up the former Golden Kingdom, and it's somewhat painful for her to do so.

Ace still sucks.

I love the artifacts.

I want to live in your brain. And I totally knew that Kunzite was back from Rei's letter. I love that Rei doesn't like writing long letters. I love everything. I love you.

Brilliant! I love (love, love) the archeology angle of uncovering the golden Kingdom. Also, I like the way this story is unfolding - very creative!

Fave line?

"...but whenever Mamoru tried to pull rank on Minako, she would smile and do the opposite."

Because, yes!

(Off to read part two!)

Minako and Mamoru are difficult because while Minako will happily accepts orders from Usagi, she won't do the same for Mamoru.
