Characters: Mars, Jadeite
It’s awkward, the way they’re standing so close to one another without touching. She doesn’t blink, just looks at him with those deep, soulful eyes and Jadeite knows that he in the process of losing himself in them. He’s terrified, absolutely, heart-wrenchingly terrified, so he clears his throat and takes a little step back.
“Did the plant die already?” It’s the first thing that comes to his mind and her response is a soft sigh.

When she leads Serenity out in the snow-covered park, ready to apparate them back to the Moon, her princess smiles. It’s the smile Mars has seen on the queen countless times, knowing and kind. It’s odd to see it on the face of the bubbly princess, but then they are all growing up, **aren’t they? “You could get him a present too, you know. Show him that you care?” Mars holds on to Serenity’s elbow and doesn’t say anything and then they’re standing in the stone garden behind the Martian temple on the Moon.

By the window in her chambers, the poinsettia is in full bloom, red flowers and green leaves catching her attention every time she walks in. The measured climate here seems perfect for the fickle plant, and she wonders if it’s a sign.

Another evening comes and goes and before the bells toll ten, Serenity has snuck out of her room. Mars and Venus exchange a look and then they’re both on Earth. Venus follows Serenity, quick steps hurrying after the princess until both of them are out of sight. Mars teeters on the spot for a second, something she never does because she was neither raised to hesitate nor to defy laws. But something is in the air tonight and Serenity’s advice still rings in her ears. She slowly moves towards Endymion’s palace, out of the cold and into the warm.

She finds him in a tower in the south wing, hands stained with ink and holding some red slips of paper with symbols painted on them. They are charms for something, Mercury already told her about them.
His eyes fly up from the weightless cargo in his hands the second she walks in. Sometimes she thinks he can smell her or feel her because she treads softly, but he always knows when she will turn around the corner.
“I came to give you something,” she whispers and the kiss is featherlight on his lips. The papers fall to the floor, littering the cold stones with hundreds of characters that mean love love love. Mars doesn’t know that, but then she doesn’t have to. She has love in front of her, and he’s looking at her with unguarded eyes and a shy smile on his lips.
