1TYM (원타임)

They are one the most popular and long standing hip hop groups in Korea today. All of the members have talents as both a group and individually allowing them to perform both up tempo hip hop songs alongside powerful ballads. Their variety has payed off allowing them to have consistently high sales on all of their albums. Despite having to take a hiatus in 2006 for a member to complete his military service, the group's fanbase remained loyal in awaiting their return.
Started when high school friends Park Hon Jun (Teddy Park) and Danny Im (Taebin) auditioned for the entertainment company Brothers Entertainment in California. Both were successful and were sent to South Korea in order to continue their training and launch their career. During their early days in Korea, the boys were introduced to YG Entertainment who took them on and decided to launch them as part of a group.
Soon after the decision was made, open auditions were launched to find more members for the unnamed group. The third member to be selected for the group was Oh Jin Hwan, who immediately impressed the judges. On the other hand, Song Baek Kyoung did not impress the judges and was said to have initially been rejected in the audition process, only being accepted once he was persistent with the bands management and taken on as the fourth and final member of the group. It has also been reported that the band had another three members before their debut but this was reduced in time for their debut release.
The band's debut album One Time For Your Mind in 1998, making them the second artist to be launched on YG Entertainment after Jinusean. The group had instant success with their song 1tym. The following singles Good Love and Wol wihan sesnaginga continued this success.
In 1999, the group were featured on the YG Family compilation Famillenium with their songs Don Don Don Cash It and 1TYM Attack.
The band released their second album, 2nd Round, in 2000. The album sees more equal participation from all the members of the group and even sees the group using traditional music, this can be seen on the track Quejina ching ching which features elements of Korean folk music.
Their third album surfaced in 2001. Third Time Fo Yo' Mind!! was a significant part in the group's musical development because every song on the album is written, composed and produced by the group.
The group returned two years later with the album Once N 4 All. On this album, the group tried their hands at covering other people's songs with a remake of Lee Namhees Cry, taking the song and changing it to fit their own hip hop style.
After the release of this album, the band took a sort of hiatus. During this period Danny Im released a solo album under the name Taebin simply entitled Taebin of 1TYM vol.1. The album was a break from the style of 1TYM and displayed a more R'n'B sound. The album was a success but the single TaBu was banned for being "thick with sexual intentions".
The band rejoined in 2005 to release their fifth album, One Way. The album shows the band's variety and to expose this variety the band chose to release Myeochbeonina, a ballad, and Niga nal aloe?, an up tempo hip hop song, as the lead singles from the album. The album features a collaboration with Big Mama's Lee Young Hyun on the song Summer Night, allowing even more diversity in the album.
In 2006, the group were forced to go on hiatus because Oh Jin Hwan was required to complete his military service. During this break, the other members of the group kept themselves busy. Danny and Teddy returned to the US to help with the business side of YG Entertainment, as well as composing songs and helping Se7en with his US debut. Baek Kyoung joined a group called Moo Ga Dang, fuelling rumours that the band would not continue after Oh Jin Hwan returned from the army. @ Wikipedia
Personal Comments: 1TYM are just too crazy not to love! I haven't find any single reason why I wouldn't like them so far. They are all talented musicians, and that's why I'm working on this pimp post. I'm hoping them to get more attention, because they really deserve it. Jinhwan is too hot to ignore.
My favourite album is the first, One Time for Your Mind. I'd also recommend "Second Round" and "One Way" for your if you haven't heard of them before.
Their track "Last Night Story" on album Third Time for Your Mind is punk-ish, and most of their songs include r'n'b too, so that's what makes them interesting. Also, lol for the Ghostbusters at "Sucka Busta" :D
