Loveathons High Roller Challenge

Before I introduce our new challenge, I'd like to introduce our new Loveathons mods! We had many wonderful members answer our call for more help with the community and are happy to welcome chaotic4life and thislittlelady from their number. Also, long time mod (and awesome graphicteer) rachel_shanz has changed her name to txtequilanights. So... that's a chage that's not so much a change.

First you say - but the smut (if included) Then you say - As long as there is someone doubling down and someone going down, you're good! And this challenge is for ratings of R or stronger, no PG-13 or fluffy-handholding-sweetness.

So which is it? Why do the fics HAVE to be R or NC-17? There are plenty of PG-13 fics that leave the details to the person's imaginations, and they come across as plenty hot. It just seems like you shooting yourselves in the foot. You want people to go for the challenge but you shackle them with minimum R requirement. Also if people don't know how to add buttons to their LJ you're excluding them from this challenge.

I am sorry you are a little confused. Certainly there are writers that are able to pull of a hot scene in a fic and still keep a PG 13 rating by being vague.
The lovathons community isn't the place for it though. This community was created solemly for hot and steamy fics with desrciptive sexual scenes. The challenge we are creating, is to not get stuck on PWP, but rather including porn within a reasonable storyline and characterizations.

Also the As long as there is someone doubling down and someone going down relates to the sentence above, that the actually sex does not have to happen during the Gambling aspect of the story; It can be included within other parts of the storyline.

Bottom line: These are the community and therefore the challenge requirements. It's a challenge! Take it or leave it.
If it would be easy, there would not be a challenge, right?

chaotic4life addressed the issue of story rating, so I'll just add that the "smut (if included)" was a typo. Thanks for catching it.

Also, loveathons has always been about the smut except for one challenge where we allowed down to PG-13 and that experiment didn't leave us too happy with the results. I know several of our award winning authors at loveathons who were very hesitant about trying for smut and came away with excellent results.

As for the buttons, we say pretty explicitly that we will not exclude people from the challenge if they don't know how to add a banner to their userinfo or even if they just don't want to. "Not because we’re planning on stalking you down and kicking you out of the community." In the best of all possible worlds, all of our members would love the community a whole bunch and want to advertise for us. We are optimists. How do you think we got through Season Two? ;)

However, I have no wish to be associated with straight porn and that seems to be all you want people to write. There is a fine line between smutty and erotic and porn.
