soup is my boyfriend, but the soup man is not.

if you know me at all, you probably know that i could (and often do) eat soup every single day.

When I was in college I had this job that I absolutely loved, but then we hired an asshole. He was a freshman from Los Angeles and lived on a steady diet of junk food, and would always complain that there were "no good restaurants in this town" (by which he meant McDonalds and Taco Bell). I was in awe (and disgust) that he could maintain his, um, LIFE, on such a shitty diet, and would often express this to him. He would shrug.

Anyway, once I said something about how I had been making soup that day, and it took me much longer than I expected, making me late for work or a class or something. He gave me a weird look and asked how long it took me. I replied, "Oh, two hours." His eyes bugged out and he said, "How does it take you that long to open a can and microwave the contents in a bowl?" I told him that once I learned how to make soup from scratch, I couldn't have canned soup anymore; it was too disgusting. He raised his eyebrows in disbelief. I am currently anticipating coming home to posole leftovers. Nina's posole cures all ills.

Also, over the summer, you definitely need to try B+H's cold cucumber soup. It's somewhat similar to a thinned-out tzatziki, and it's amazing. Also, Veselka's "christmas borscht" is great too (beets and greens).

yes, agreed re xmas borscht at veselka. i would love to come to nina's posole. and i love tzatziki and raita and other such things SO MUCH - i have no doubt i'd love the cucumber soup. can't wait.
