From the TV Guide on Mansfield Park (the Billie Piper version)

"The set and costumes are good, but the spirit of Austen's fiesty heroine is sadly missing in the script and performances."

I'm assuming that the reviewer hadn't actually read the book and figured Austen = spunky heroine not realising that they were describing one of the most passive ( Read more... )

They thought that Fanny Price was supposed to be feisty? Someone definitely didn't read the book.

Ha, research fail much?

(Poor old misunderstood Fanny, though. I did an essay for Mansfield Park for uni and was amazed at the level of badly-concealed hate directed at her in critical lit circles. It was like fandom-level character bashing. o.O)
