Just finished reading The True History of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey - quite good really, once I got used to the style - it also made me go back and re-watch Ned Kelly (the Heath Ledger version) which is usually panned, but looking back I think it's a pretty good film.  Even Orlando Bloom wasn't bad in it (maybe the Irish accent made him seem ( Read more... )

I never cared much for E.T., either. It wasn't bad, but the only reason I watched it in the first place was that my grandparents and aunt insisted, and then they were irritated because my reaction was so indifferent. I'm glad to see someone else who doesn't adore it to pieces. :D

I think there a lot of children's/family films out there that are far superior - there are even Spielberg films that are better - I actually much prefer Hook to E.T..

Good to know I'm not alone :D

Totally agree about Joel Edgerton - he seems to pick his roles well.

I hated E.T. as a kid. :p I remember finding it upsetting, but I can't remember why. I think E.T. himself gave me the creeps, maybe.

Joel Edgerton, imo, is a great character actor - he's always in the background working hard :D

E.T. did have a very creepy voice, the way I remember it...and the whole glowing-heart thing...

Gladiator isa strange one for me - it has all the elements of what I usually like in films (the soundtrack is gorgeous!) but I just can't sit through it *shrug*
