Oh my God. This was so poignant, it had me tearing up. So beautiful and painful to see Lee and Adama mourning Kara separately and how that grief drives them apart instead of drawing them together. Wonderful job with this.

Yeah, I always liked the way they (subtly) contrasted it in the ep: Lee and Sam, who disliked each other when she was alive for obvious and understandable reasons, actually seem to bond over losing her. Bill and Lee otoh, who have every reason to support each other, end up competing over who has the greater right to grieve.

It also becomes a bit of a debate over which love is greater: that between soul mates, or that between a parent and child. (personally I think that's comparing apples and oranges--equally tasty, yet totally different) They don't even share a frame of reference, since Lee never had a child (and therefore never lost one) and Bill doesn't seem to have had a real soul mate (being very divorced from Lee and Zak's mother.) Bill might have more insight after losing Laura, but by then the point is moot. And anyway, he's less precious about his grief than Lee.

That was a bit teal deer, wasn't it? Anyhow, thanks muchly for reading and commenting! :)

Beautiful, quietly poignant and so sad. I love how you've captured both Adama and Lee's grief in every segment; the pain feels so real, so raw and tangible. I especially love the ending. It tore me apart, leaving me on the verge of tears --it's even more tragic and moving now that we all know the end of the story. Thanks very much for this wonderful piece.
