Title: Home for Midwinter
Rating: G
Theme: 2016 Yule Fic Exchange
Elements: Maglor gen, living with Avarin found family/family of choice in the East, and something involving winter. Hurt/comfort would be lovely, as long as it isn’t Maglor reminiscing about his past.
Author's Notes: Many thanks to Himring for the superquick beta ( Read more... )

Oh Tal, this is beautiful! But I'm all choked up now because one day of course he'll have to move on. Just hope your girl will be grown and with a husband and babies of her own before then. But for now... I love world building, and the society you've created here feels so richly authentic. I'd like to know more about these people *hint*.

Hiya darling.

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you liked it. I suspect Maglor will be staying on for a while... who knows. :)

It's lovely. You build suspense so effectively in just a few words. I like the worldbuilding and the characterization.I enjoyed it tremendously. I love the home-for-holidays trope also.

Thanks so much! I think it was my first time with this trope. It was fun writing, albeit stressing because it was down to the last minute. I'm glad that in the end it worked and I'm really happy that you liked it.

I love this! Thank you so much!

Hwandië is wonderful! I love her to pieces, that she's doing so much and being her own person. And then her relationship with Maglor: oh my heart. I love that she's practically another daughter to him.

And that he's visiting Elrond! And making efforts to not break promises! And the shells and sea glass when he returns!

And the final lines are perfect. Just perfect.

I pretty much just want to hug this story to myself and not let go. It's brought a huge smile to my face. Thank you!

Hi!

I am SO happy that you liked this. I wanted to write something more directly Maglor but it came off this way. I know a little bit of your own work, so I suspected you wouldn't mind an OFC telling the tale but I'm really relieved by your comment.

Thanks so much - it made my day knowing that the fic made you happy! :)

The POV being an OFC is one of the things I love about it! (I keep coming up with more things; just thinking about it makes me smile.) So… Thank you again! :D

I've already told you I really like your protagonist! You've taken such care in building her up--both her family background and her people's culture as well as her personal character. And I really like her relationship with Kano--that strong emotional bond and how formative his influence is--he's taken over a lot of her education, it seems, and she's lapping it all up, but very much has her own opinions!

(I'm glad that I happened to have the time to do a quick beta just then. Looks like you managed to get the changes in before the story went up!)

Thanks so much for the last-minute beta! You were super fast and I really enjoyed your betaing, the kind that hits only in the right places. It meant a lot to me being able to present the bettered version of this in time.

I'm also flattered with your kind comments. You know how much I admire you as a writer and your world and character building, so it means a lot.

I really enjoyed this - I do like the idea of him becoming part of an Avarin family, and his visiting Elrond; so much less bleak than much of what is written of him. And now I wonder who his other errand took him to see?

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. That errand might be a story in itself. If things don't get too hectic I may write it one of these days.

*hugs*
