So lovely and poignant. That tears express both joy and sorrow mingled is one of JRRT's great themes and you capture it well.

Oh, yes, he did. "Not all tears are an evil," Gandalf advised Merry, Pippin, and Sam at the Grey Havens. And the greatest joys are that way because they are contrasted with sorrows.
