"All of this ‘running away’ business isn’t half the fun I’d chalked it up to be."

Poor lad, I wonder what he expected! Oh my goodness, what a wonderful encounter. This could be a missing chapter of the Professor's marvelous tale.

Grand romance, no doubt; all the fun of Adventure and none of the dreariness and pains.

Verisimilitude with canon is something I always try to achieve, so that last sentence means a lot to me.

I loved this! :) If anybody could talk sense into young Pip, it would be Sam!

I certainly hope so! Though really, in Sam's case it was more a matter of "show, not tell"... *wicked grin*

Oh, this is absolutely perfect! I adore everything, from Pip's objections with his lack of attention, to Sam's cleverness. Splendid! Thank you!

Hurrah!!! Pleased to have been of service. *bows*

I shall endeavor to post some rather doomy author's notes shortly that will hopefully explain some of my own reasoning for such things as Pippin's "they don't appreciate me enough" and also give credit to the umpteen authors I peached ideas from for the tale.

But very, very glad you liked it!!

was positive i had reviewed this one, loved the fact that pippin ran the right directon to the right place even without plans. so often fate plays with us, and pippin will have a long time to learn better survival skills from sam; think where he'd be without them in later life.

*grin* You did review it, on the comm.

I hadn't really thought of the astonishingly good luck Pip got for managing to land in the right place, but Pippin does seem to get astonishing sweeps of luck anyhow (the first one that sprung to mind was aligning the Palantir properly by chance, though that may not necessarily be "good" luck depending on how you view it).

I found it mightily amusing that Sam never realized until years later that he had been punishing the Thain's son! LOL!

Pippin is so full of imagination and the Tookish adventurous spirit--and how frustrating to rua away and no one notice!

I loved Sam's practicality in all of this: it's just how I imagine justice was meted out to young people in the Shire. I am sure that hobbits were graat believers in the old "it takes a vellage" proverb!

That came right out of Great Expectations, my dear. I imagine that if Sam had known who Pippin was (and what he was) at the time he wouldn't have been quite so free in his administration of justice--at least, he wouldn't have set him to the liquid manure!

Well, he'd only been gone for a short time, really, and everyone else was so tired from the party that it must have taken a little while for them to notice. And even then, did he run away or did they just lose track of him last night, etc.?

Sam is a very practical sort, isn't he? He managed to accomplish so many things at once; I imagine that those who knew about the incident in later years immediately thought of it when thinking of whether or not Sam would make a good Mayor.
