My god, I have tried to think of a comment, I really have, but all that comes to mind is incoherent flailing. When the Lights Go On Again is one of my favorite Vera Lynn songs. This fic is poignant and their arguing makes so much sense as a displacement activity for all the things they can't say in the middle of a crowd of people.

And now I'm just going to sit here and pretend John makes it through and comes home safe. Or possibly shot up but recovering.

I'm thrilled you like it, love! I was sitting listening to our girl Vera and this idea popped into my head. I was going to delegate it to the 'possible ideas for fics' notebook before I just thought sod it, and wrote it anyway. That's definitely how I wanted the arguing to be read as well, I'm so glad it came across that way to you.

There's a strong possibility there might be more in this 'verse, as it was very satisfying to work on for a couple of hours!

Oh, poor boys. :( I was so happy when Sherlock was able to subtly hold his hand, because at least that's something. The argument/what it winds down to is wonderful; you can definitely feel the tension/frustration. I like the last line too.

I'd definitely love to see more of this verse... Though I hope they both come home safely, because I hate the idea of anything happening to them. D8

I, personally, would die for more of this. I really would. Mostly because anything that takes place during a war I always have end badly in my head, and I would love for you to prove me wrong.
