A Sad Day, A Strange Dream

Feb 25, 2009 21:30

This morning at 10:31, an airplane crashed just a few miles from where I live. Its engines lost power for as yet unknown reasons as it was landing, causing it to literally "fall out of the sky", and crash on a plot of farmland near the runway. It broke into three pieces when it came down and both its engines detached from it as well. Miraculously, ( Read more... )

dreams, sadness

Yeah, my house is right under the flying route to the runways. They fly overhead all the time so I'm really used to the sound. It was very strange not to hear it all day.

Wow, that *is* really eerie, that you had that dream while it happened! You say this has happened to you before? I've had dreams about things that turned out to have really happened, but usually I had heard people talking on the radio or tv, in my sleep, without realising it.

The crash itself is horrible, and tragic, and scary! It must be even scarier to have it happen so close to where you live. *hugs*

It does happen to me ever so often, has since I was a child. But usually more trivial stuff, you know? Like, I'd know when someone was coming for a surprise visit, or I'd wake up in the middle of the night hearing a friend call my name, only to find out the next morning that they sent a text at that exact time. A few years ago I had this out-of-this-world realistic dream about meeting Dom... and when I met him for real later, the first thing he said to me was: "so we meet again! Um... we've met before, right?" And I was all O_O as one is at such a moment.

The crash is a terrible tragedy. I only realised much, much later that, had they been told to land on a different runway, it could easily have been my neighbourhood they crashed on. Scary thought indeed.

That is an amazing story, about meeting Dom! As if the two of you had met before in an earlier life, or something like that. In any case you were clearly meant to meet. Wow. What a profound and lovely memory to have.

It's all very scary. Some guardian angel must have made sure the plane crashed in that field, instead of an inhabited area. Brrrrr. There definitely is more between heaven and earth...

wow, that's scary! I am glad that it didn't crash in a populated area. It's so scary to see how many planes crash lately. I'm going to fly back to Germany from London on Monday...but Ryanair has never crashed, so I'm pretty confident, even if the service is shit haha

A bloke I dated some years ago who helped rid me of my fear of flying, is a pilot with Ryanair. So listen closely at the pilot announcement when you fly. If it's Captain Franklin, you're in safe hands. He knows the protocols inside out. Believe me, I've heard them all.

Seriously though, from what I've heard in the news, it's mainly due to the pilot and how he acted in the emergency, that there are so relatively few casualties. He kept the plane in the air as long as he could, even managed to avoid hitting the motorway. Sadly, neither he nor his copilots have survived, but he saved many lives yesterday.

This is completely OT, but would you be interested in going to the Elf Fantasy Fair in Haarzuilens, on 25 & 26 april? Mark Ferguson and James Marsters will be there as guests, and they will both give acting workshops! I thought it might be interesting for you and dutchdiamont? It would be nice if we could get a little group together again. So far hobbitlove83 and I are going, but I'm hoping lots of people will come.

My brother and I will definitely be going, yeah! It's my birthday on the 24th, as well, and it's always a bit of a party at the EFF. Will you be dressing up? We will be, so I hope you won't be embarrassed by association. ;)

If Di is going, it will most likely be together with her boyfriend. If Mark's there, I'm guessing she'll be there, too, though. *giggle* Unless her BF wants to keep her away from the competition... Do Not Underestimate The Attraction Of The Ferguson, as Craig would say.

JAMES MARSTERS?? *squeak* It IS my birthday!

That's great! On what day will you be going? Annet and I are going both days, and we'll just sleep at home. It's not that far away.

I'm not dressing up, though I might wear my Ring*Con t-shirt, but you know I won't be embarrassed by association! Will you be wearing your lovely purple dress, or do you plan to wear something else? What will your brother be wearing?

Hmmm, yes, I know about the Ferguson attraction. I hope I'll find the courage to do a workshop again. If they aren't fully booked already.

Yes! James Marsters!! Isn't it great?!?!! :D

Captain Spiiiike!!! Ahem, sorry. I shall contain myself.

Well, I've got the Sunday off, but with this kind of entertainment in store I might be tempted to swap my shift for Saturday as well, or take a vacation day.

My brother will be in his pirate costume. My attire will depend on the weather. I've got a lovely new hunter's outfit that I'm itching to try out, for when it's cold. If it's middling, I'll wear the purple one. If it's warm enough, I'll be scantily clad and covered in green body paint.

... do you think Mark and James will be open-minded about green-skinned girls attending their workshops?
