Costigan woke up at a decent pace, neither slowly drifting out of a dreamless sleep or bolting awake. Without looking around, he knew that he wasn't in his room and some indeterminate period of time had passed. When he found himself in the infirmary, it only confirmed that sensation, the knowledge that something had taken him into the infamous 'Barge coma' and he'd been out anywhere from a couple days to a month ( ... )

Dick hadn't been living in the infirmary for the duration of his inmate's coma. Joke all you wanted, but he wasn't quite that neurotic, and it had really been dumb luck that he'd happened to be in the infirmary when Costigan had woken up. He'd stopped by to check in on him, and that had apparently turned into falling asleep in the infirmary. The most recent flood had been stressful, and it had taken a bit of a toll on him in that he'd been keeping weird hours and been generally restless, so maybe the accidental sleep wasn't too shocking.

He didn't quite startle as Costigan shook his shoulder, but was awake and blinking quickly, looking up at him in confusion for a moment before smiling.

"Hey. Since when are you up?"

He was teasing a little, genuinely glad to see him up and about again, although it was definitely funny to think he'd been asleep when his inmate had finally woken up.

SPAM juuuuust for you. <3 lost_undercover June 1 2011, 07:24:37 UTC
"Since a few minutes ago," Costigan replied with the same sort of almost-humor. Then the inmate was already moving on, beginning to progress toward the door in order to encourage his warden to do the same. There was a definite sense of impatience to his movements, but any sense of anxiety or nerves were deeply hidden. He'd been an undercover for years, after all, and the guy had learned how to hide a nervous twitch or an idle fidgeting.

"You going to insist I crash with you tonight or can we part ways now? I could use a shower and a sleep that isn't forced." Which really meant he wanted a shower and to visit friends, but Dick didn't need to know that part -- particularly given the friend he was most anxious to see.

The warden chuckled softly and got up, following his inmate without protest or complaint out of the infirmary. He could see or sense the impatience, but chalked it up to being frustrated about being in a coma and wanting to get out of the infirmary, something he could understand and empathize with even if he'd never been in a Barge coma.

Dick shrugged. "If you want, you can, but you don't have to." Part of him hoped he said yes, even though he was pretty sure that wasn't going to happen in a million years unless Dick actually ordered him to, which also wasn't going to happen, so he'd probably have to settle for tagging along with him for as long as Costigan would allow before calling it a lost cause and figuring out if he still wanted to do the meds in the morning, as they'd been doing before he'd gone into a coma. "How are you feeling?"

Pretty sure Eddie put surveys under everyone's door asking questions about it a couple weeks ago, but I'm sure if they've got 'em, they'll ask.

Not bad. I got stuck down in Zero foah a couple of days durin' our most recent flood, but otherwise? Nothin' to complain about.

I see someone's mentioned me already. Eddie Russett. I have a questionnaire - trying to establish patterns and things - if you wouldn't mind filling it in.

Can I ask where you're from? No offense, but you seem a little young to be doing this kid of research without some kind of genius streak or somethin'.

I'm glad. I'd like it to be in your hands.

I'm alright. Tired. [He laughs a little at that.]

[...] Yeah, sure. I'll come pick it up in the morning. That work for you or you want me to come tonight?
