Costigan woke up at a decent pace, neither slowly drifting out of a dreamless sleep or bolting awake. Without looking around, he knew that he wasn't in his room and some indeterminate period of time had passed. When he found himself in the infirmary, it only confirmed that sensation, the knowledge that something had taken him into the infamous 'Barge coma' and he'd been out anywhere from a couple days to a month.

A quick glance sideways showed his diligent warden asleep at his bedside. The inmate intentionally slipped out of bed on the opposite side, dragging the IV stand along with him rather than pulling the tubing. He found Martha almost immediately and impatiently insisted he was fine; all he could think of was all the things he was meant to do before he'd lost such time.

A few minutes later, with approval from the good Doctor Jones, he pulled out his communicator and quietly made a post, partially to prove he was still alive, but mostly to check in with the few he was concerned about. Then he was back at his bed, dressed, cleaned off, and ready to go. With a light smile, he shook the shoulder of his warden.

"Time to go, kid."

Dick hadn't been living in the infirmary for the duration of his inmate's coma. Joke all you wanted, but he wasn't quite that neurotic, and it had really been dumb luck that he'd happened to be in the infirmary when Costigan had woken up. He'd stopped by to check in on him, and that had apparently turned into falling asleep in the infirmary. The most recent flood had been stressful, and it had taken a bit of a toll on him in that he'd been keeping weird hours and been generally restless, so maybe the accidental sleep wasn't too shocking.

He didn't quite startle as Costigan shook his shoulder, but was awake and blinking quickly, looking up at him in confusion for a moment before smiling.

"Hey. Since when are you up?"

He was teasing a little, genuinely glad to see him up and about again, although it was definitely funny to think he'd been asleep when his inmate had finally woken up.

"Since a few minutes ago," Costigan replied with the same sort of almost-humor. Then the inmate was already moving on, beginning to progress toward the door in order to encourage his warden to do the same. There was a definite sense of impatience to his movements, but any sense of anxiety or nerves were deeply hidden. He'd been an undercover for years, after all, and the guy had learned how to hide a nervous twitch or an idle fidgeting.

"You going to insist I crash with you tonight or can we part ways now? I could use a shower and a sleep that isn't forced." Which really meant he wanted a shower and to visit friends, but Dick didn't need to know that part -- particularly given the friend he was most anxious to see.

The warden chuckled softly and got up, following his inmate without protest or complaint out of the infirmary. He could see or sense the impatience, but chalked it up to being frustrated about being in a coma and wanting to get out of the infirmary, something he could understand and empathize with even if he'd never been in a Barge coma.

Dick shrugged. "If you want, you can, but you don't have to." Part of him hoped he said yes, even though he was pretty sure that wasn't going to happen in a million years unless Dick actually ordered him to, which also wasn't going to happen, so he'd probably have to settle for tagging along with him for as long as Costigan would allow before calling it a lost cause and figuring out if he still wanted to do the meds in the morning, as they'd been doing before he'd gone into a coma. "How are you feeling?"

Costigan appreciated Dick's nonchalance about situations like this, and the trust of not asking if he'd already talked to Martha. The inmate almost immediately stuffed his hands into his pockets as he stepped out of the room. He could sense that need in Dick to be present and wardening and, much to his dismay, he could also feel his sense of duty growing; it was more important to be present for his warden than to visit Mal right now. Besides, it would be difficult to know when Dick was and wasn't keeping an eye on him.

"I'm alright," he replied offhandedly, not entirely certain how he felt. More than anything else, he was frustrated with having lost some period of time that he still had yet to calculate. "How long was I out?"

Costigan was worried about Rex, David, and others. He had practically been in the middle of conversations with Howie and John. The coma was ill-timed and it was the first time he had ever experienced one. Already, he kind of hated it. But he conceded and responded in a way to let Dick know he planned on spending the night with his warden. "I need to grab some clothes. You mind if I use your shower?"

"About three weeks. Twenty days?" With the breach and all the extra memories that had come along with it just sort of sitting in the middle of the month, having a coherent sense of time was a little difficult. It felt a little bit like forever since he'd dragged him down here after he'd found him asleep and unresponsive in his room. "You missed a lot."

And he'd give him details if he asked, but he didn't want to just chatter on and overwhelm him right after he'd woken up. He knew he'd be worried about Rex and probably curious about Mal, and Dick wanted to ask about Nygma ever since Howie had let slip that Costigan had had serious issues with him being a warden or something, but he'd give Costigan a chance to lead the conversation before telling him.

The second part kind of caught him off guard, and he a surprised smile into a more casual one. "That's fine. You know, me casa es su casa."

Costigan froze at that. He was expecting a few days, not twenty. It took him a second, but he recovered and began walking again with a dark grimace to his expression. It was clear that the inmate was displeased with that answer, but he kept silent about it, staring ahead and trying to figure things out in his own mind.

To the latter, he gave a distracted nod and, as they approached the stairs, he moved toward his own room and silently expected Dick to follow. After a beat, just in case Dick wasn't certain he was meant to accompany, Costigan spoke up again. "Who died while I was out?"

Dick really didn't know what to say about it, so he just followed him in silence as they headed towards his room.

He'd done the warden report after the breach, and although he'd spent most of the flood pacing and worrying and eventually passing out in the infirmary, he'd still read backlogs, so he had a pretty decent recollection of what had happened. "There was a hull breach a few weeks ago. We were in the American old west, and Hoffman - or his counterpart or whatever, killed Parker. Jim, Tim and I caught him and dragged him back to jail." He avoided mentioning his own issues in reference to that, and went straight to the next topic.

"Rinzler committed suicide during the flood that ended a day or two ago, but no one else died during the flood, or in the interim, to the best of my knowledge." He paused. "Rex has seemed okay, mostly. Relatively."

Costigan was silent and didn't even realize he'd stopped breathing while waiting for Dick's reply until he released the breath at the end. He didn't care about them -- maybe Parker, only because of her friendship with his own Parker -- and it was a relief to hear that the people he truly cared about seemed to be alright. Alive, at least.

"Thanks," he replied evenly, though an edge had insinuated itself into his tone, suggesting a hardness he didn't care to comment on. The inmate also appreciated Dick seemingly keeping an eye on Rex, even if the warden had failed at it -- Costigan himself could hardly keep up with Rex at times, so it really was the thought that counted.

He nodded, brow furrowed slightly in concern, not sure what to say next. He could ask about Mal, but he was certain that would end in catastrophe and just make him more anxious than he already was, and he wasn't sure if giving more information out about Rex would be helpful or not.

But, he'd rather tell him what he knew now rather than have it look like he'd intentionally withheld information later, so he told him what he knew.

"He was reassigned on the fifteenth. I don't know why, I think I've talked to Harper maybe... once." Before the Nanomites thing, and even then, it had been pretty brief. "But as far as I know, he's been pretty much staying out of trouble. Admittedly, I was kind of off Network for a few days-" Because of the flood, and therefore he'd missed the relapse post. "But... I don't know." He shrugged. "He's apparently maybe going to start working in the lab again."

Costigan gave a couple nods to Dick to acknowledge that he was listening, even though he didn't care so much about the information. Half Rex had already told him and the other half was inaccurate; he appreciated the efforts of his warden, of course, but it was never quite the same between a warden and inmate as it was between inmates. At least, not without someone like Donny -- or a friendship like it. The thought saddened him for a moment, as they neared his room.

"I trust him to tell me what's going on, but thanks for lookin' after him a little." The inmate offered diplomatically. Then he slid a key from his pocket to open his door. "Wait here? I'll be back in a minute."

"Sure." If the vigilante was uncomfortable hanging out in the hallway basically right next to the person who'd destroyed his city's room, he didn't show it, and he immediately relaxed against the wall next to the door, hands slipping into the pockets of his jeans.
