[Costigan's talking in his usual chill voice, which is pretty much devoid of accent.]

When my dad died, the father at the service said it gets easier to deal with death as time goes on. I know he wasn't exactly talking about my own death, but I still feel like he had no fuckin' clue.

Funny. All he told me was he'd talk to you. I didn't realize you were waiting.

[ He's being careful with his words. Appreciate, Costigan :| ]

If you knew, would you have contacted me before you wanted to talk?

I still don't want to talk to you. I'm doing it because he wants me to and that's how he and I do things.

What is it you want to talk about?

[Costigan opened the door slowly, not exactly expecting anyone. As soon as he saw Howie, most of the tension fell away and he opened the door wider.] "Did something happen or is this social?"

You don't...deal with death. You have to accept it as an inevitability. And realize that it's not the end.

But yes. I do think that.

I was kind of hoping there was a different life after death, though.

Do you want to talk here or meet somewhere?

There is a different life. For other people.

Let's meet.

Why not for us?

Sure. When and where?

[She sounds a little harried, because she's been dealing with a wee religious Angelica and a teenage prick Arthur all day. But it also means she's bee too preoccupied to even be surprised at his contacting her. The surprise will come later.]

Nightmares? How old is he? What are they about, or will he tell you?

I don't-- I don't know. Eight or nine, maybe? Yeah, he told me, but it's personal stuff. [...] His parents both died. I think it's about that. I don't know what to do here.

Oh god, the poor boy. Well ... all right, the first thing is to reassure him that he's safe, all right? If it was just an overactive imagination or something he'd read, you could tell hm it was only a dream, but if it's to do with losing his parents, you can't just dismiss it. He just needs to know that he's not alone now, and no one's going to hurt him. And if he wants to talk, just let him talk.

...Does that help at all?

[There's some screaming sobs in the background this time.] No, he's still--

[After a pause, the thing switches to text.]

He's crying for his mom and dad and not knowing where he is. I can't do anything. Now he won't let go.
