[Costigan's talking in his usual chill voice, which is pretty much devoid of accent.]

When my dad died, the father at the service said it gets easier to deal with death as time goes on. I know he wasn't exactly talking about my own death, but I still feel like he had no fuckin' clue.

[Inmate Filter, minus Crane & Slade]I need some alcohol. Anyone ( Read more... )

[Costigan opened the door slowly, not exactly expecting anyone. As soon as he saw Howie, most of the tension fell away and he opened the door wider.] "Did something happen or is this social?"

"Yeah, sure. Give me one second." [Costigan smiled at that and nodded, surprised but glad. He released the door to walk back into his room, leaving it open for Howie to enter if he wanted. The inmated moved to grab his cap and his jacket, sliding the hat on first. Howie might have been able to catch sight of a couple large scars on Costigan's arm before he slid the jacket on if the warden was looking.] "Thanks for taking me up on it."

spam. Let me know if you want me to edit. I assumed a little. lost_undercover March 28 2011, 03:10:37 UTC
[Costigan let out a sigh as he finished getting ready, double-checking that both his medallion and knife were still there with very subtle gestures of one hand on his chest and one on his back for just a second. Then he was giving a nod toward the door for them to migrate to the hallway, checking the lock behind him.]

[The inmate let out a small sigh as he replied.] "I'm alright, sir."

[He paused, glancing sideways at Howie and then looking forward again, stuffing his hands into his pockets as they started walking.] "I'm friends with Rex." [That should explain some stress, at least.]

"Yeah, still." [Costigan couldn't blame Howie for asking, so he responded as he wound to any normal question, then continued.] "The kid's--" [He paused and looked over to Howie.] "If I tell you this, it stays between you and me, guy. Can you swear to that?"

[Costigan sighed a little before he began speaking.]

"Rex. He's a little misguided, but he's good people. He didn't tell me because he didn't want to be talked out of it, which means he could have been.." [The inmate wanted Howie to understand why he was friends with people like that, sure, but more so, he wanted Howie to realize that Rex wasn't a bad kid.] "Besides, loyalty's worth more here than anything else and he's been loyal."

"I know, Sergeant. I don't blame anyone that was affected for hating him, yourself included, but I'm not willing to abandon him for this. He fucked up, but he mostly did it for the right reasons. It's nothing I wouldn't have done if I had his mind and was put through the shit he's been." [That was a little bit of a stretch of the truth, but he was hoping Howie wouldn't read into that part.] "But hey, don't let it spoil our drink, okay? If you don't want to talk about it, we don't have to."

spam. <3 I'm terribly sorry.. do you mind assuming the rest of this? :C lost_undercover April 3 2011, 18:03:19 UTC
[Costigan gave small nods in response to all counts, still following along with Howie. Really, it was more enjoyable to drink and talk bullshit than to talk the serious stuff; the serious stuff was always what flared tempers or depressions and took the enjoyment out of drinking.]
