Fahk you, you fahkin' snake. You know who you ah. Fahkin' queehbait.

[A pause, then he resumes with almost no accent.]

Sometimes this place isn't so bad. [He laughs, then coughs.] Fuck. No, I'm fine, guy.

[Clicks off.]

[Added later:]
[There's a short pause, then a sigh.] I spoke too soon.

[Quieter, as his voice is away from the communicator.]
Fuck, I didn't--

Did he say anything, before he went? No signs or anything?

I understand, sir. [He reads between your scratched out lines.]

I'm fine. What is it?

Thank you, sir. That's impressive.

Look, I know.. What happened.. You can't let him win. You take all the time you need, but I can't think of anyone else here that could care for it except Paddy, who's already running the kitchens, or.. fuck, maybe Donowitz?

I get it. I wouldn't ask you to do it unless I knew you could handle it. Like I said, take your time. If you want to try Donowitz, that would be fine, but it wouldn't be the same.

Meet me somewhere and we can speak more freely. My filters have been taken away. If it makes you more comfortable, you can choose the location and time.

You want Parker and I to come looking for you?

Don't worry about it.

That would be fantastic. [Pauuuuse.] But I have no idea where I am.

You sound terrible.

That's the point of looking.

I came out the worse side of a little brawl. It's nothing.

Dick was leaning against one of the counters, having just retrieved some soda from the mini fridge and looked up as Costigan spoke. He nodded slightly at the statement, not really sure what else to do. "Yeah, I know." He didn't elaborate, leaving it open for Costigan to do so if he wanted, but not really expecting him to. He was - after all - Costigan.

So as the inmate moved on, Dick took a long drink from his soda, grimaced slightly as the carbonation stung on the way down and asked "What's there to talk about?"

"Why didn't you tell me?" It was the only elaboration he was curious about. Costigan hadn't realized for a full week and that fact bothered him more than anything else. What if Parker or Rex or Bourne disappeared? How long would it take him to notice one of them? Lockheart had already left, as had McCoy, Bruce, and others. He hadn't been so slow with any of them and he was a hell of a lot closer to Damon.

Then he was glad to jump to the other topic again, stretching both hands above his head, then folding them beneath his neck. "I know it wasn't self-defense. I still want it back."

Dick shrugged slightly. The gesture was slightly awkward, as was the phrase that accompanied it, but it was honest. "I thought you knew." There had been at least a network post about it, and considering he knew how much he knew losing friends sucked, he'd sort of assumed if Costigan wanted to talk about it, he would, and otherwise he'd leave him alone. He knew he definitely wouldn't have wanted to talk about it if Wally left or something.

So he went with the topic change again, pulling the knife out of the pocket of his jeans. "I don't care." Yeah, the deal had been you can have it as long as you only use it for self defense, but Armand had tried to kill him, and would have if Donny hadn't shown up. If he wanted to finish the job later? Dick wanted Costigan to have at least some advantage - however small - against the vampire. He walked back out of the kitchenette and handed it over to the inmate. "Here."

Costigan understood that explanation and, as much as he wanted someone to blame, he knew that Dick couldn't be that guy. The inmate didn't say anything else on the matter, but his hands retreated out from under his head to shifted awkwardly to laying on his torso. With the pain reminding him of the main wounds there, he shifted them awkwardly to his sides instead. He didn't mind the pain, but the inconvenience could be a pain in the ass sometimes.

The warden's reply about the knife was unexpected and the former undercover actually shifted to look toward Dick at that, his gaze following the vigilante as he walked over. Costigan stared for a moment as if to ensure it wasn't a lesson to be learned before slowly reaching up to take the weapon from his warden with an expression of appreciation. "Thanks."
