1. This week got eaten by complaining about my lack of the book I ordered to an Amazon Marketplace company but at least I have said book now, even if I may possibly wind up with two. (It's not that they were awful, it's just that I can't do these things very well at all these days, and I had to phone the Post Office delivery place, even though you ( Read more... )

Yes, it happens rarely, but it's a pain when it does!

The killer rats! Hurrah. Yes, a bit of the Brig and Liz would have done wonders for "Doomwatch", wouldn't it! (Sorry, that should really be "DOOM!!!!watch".) :) I'm amazed to hear that you haven't found any crossovers. Like B7, it seems a natural fit.

I enjoyed the episode, but less so when I woke at 4am this morning, having been having a nightmare about thousands and thousands of rats pouring out of places. I had to have the light on for a while so that I could see that there were no rats in there with me.

There isn't even any fic! I suppose this is because it's never been out on DVD till now, but it does seem a bit odd, really.

And in at the windows and in at the door,
And through the walls helter-skelter they pour,
And down from the ceiling and up through the floor,
From the right and the left, from behind and before,
From within and without, from above and below,
And all at once to the Bishop they go.

(Sorry, couldn't resist).

Well, next time, do! Luckily, it didn't spark off repeat nightmares, but not for want of trying... ;-p

I recall the gorgeousness of Toby Wren being the main topic of discussion in the first series, though I always felt uncomfortable because I felt it was betraying my One True Love, Jon Finch's character in Counterstrke, a one-term wonder which was in the same slot in the autumn of 1969. Doomwatch went on quite a bit longer.

Well, he is very pretty! Slightly useless at saving the world so far, though. (So, at least he's pretty. Obv. why they keep him on the team.) I think Doomwatch actually turned up in Jan 1970 (that's what all the info says - it started at the same time as Doctor Who and the Silurians. Doomwatch had 3 series, but it's only partially surviving - 8 eps of S1, the whole of series 2, and only 3 eps of S3.

I have vaguely heard of Counterstrike, I think. I'll have to look it up. :-)

Yep, definitely January 1970. I can pinpoint it because we moved house on New Year's Day that year (!) and Counterstrike was the topic of conversation in double Biology on Tuesday mornings the preceding autumn term, while Doomwatch was the thing in the equivalent slot in my new school the next term. Nobody even seemed to remember Jon Finch, which was very disorienting. (He was so very pretty, but in a different way - broody, dark eyes you could lose your soul in.) To be fair on the younger me, I had only just turned 14 when we moved.

There is some Counterstrike on YouTube, but it's not at all a good quality piece of film.

Aw, Counterstrike sounds v interesting, but there's almost nothing of it left! Burnination is very harsh. Poor Jon Finch! :-/
