Fannish things

May 30, 2014 20:39

Still feeling grumpy (and still unable to manage being a pirate and thus still have no OUaT. *pines and sulks*).

However, fannish things!

apocalyptothon is taking votes for fandoms to include in a multi-fandom apocalyptic exchange.

Let me just repeat that bit: the Eleventh Doctor: a classically trained ballet dancer (giraffe style). *dies laughing again*

*spluttering*

I *almost* spilt hot tea in my lap at this scenario!!

ETA: Gave the generator a go after you linked to it:

*still spluttering*

HER HONOURABLE PLAYBOY by KATE HARDY
Mills & Boon Medical Romance
From A&E doctor to high-society groom?
Registrar Owen Harper is not pleased when he wins a date with A&E consultant the Hon. Ianto Jones. He’s not in the market for a relationship - especially not with a renowned womaniser like Ianto. But, then again, he is devastatingly handsome - and it's only one date after all…
Ianto has never been one for monogamy. So why does he find that one date with Owen just isn’t enough? There’s so much more to him than the other men he’s dated. And when he gives him some life-changing news he finds himself reassessing who he really wants to be - every man’s Hon.playboy.. or Owen’s honourable husband?

 That one sounds about right - if only the roles were reversed! :-)

Eleven as a classically trained ballet dancer who's been abducted for someone's harem is just... yes, sorry, it should have a no eating/drinking warning. I'm glad you managed to avoid any nasty scalds there.

Oh, and I also got this:

10)SHEIKH SURGEON by MEREDITH WEBBER
Mills & Boon Medical Romance
Desert doctor…secret mother
Fourteen years ago Dr the Eighth Doctor fell madly in love with Sheikh Elizabeth Shaw - although she could never be his, for a brief time their passion was intense.
Now Eight is faced with an emergency and is forced to seek her out. He journeys to the cosmopolitan oasis city where Liz is now a successful surgeon. She is the only woman who can save his son’s life. Not because of her skill - but because Liz is Patrick’s mother…

Yes it definitely should've come with a no consumption warning...

And Liz/Eight FTW!!! (Liz as a Sheikh is just AWESOMENESS!!)

That Unconventional Courtship pairing generator is hilarious.

This one started out so canonically and then took a bit of an interesting twist:

EXECUTIVE BODYGUARD by DEBRA WEBB
Silhouette Intrigue
The stranger with her wife’s face...
Servalan, the first woman elected president, knew her term wouldn’t be easy. Then, months into her office, her wife tragically died in a plane crash - and she began receiving bone-chilling phone calls... Now, suddenly, Dayna Mellanby has returned. And when the threats on her life began, like an executive bodyguard, Dayna performed feats of superhuman skill to protect her. And as the danger escalated around them, it seemed less daunting than facing the feelings provoked by the tender touch of the stranger with her wife's face...

Hmm, all these incidents started the moment Dayna was around? I'm suspicious of that. It's a bit more cunning than Dayna would choose to go for, but I still suspect plans to murder the president are afoot!!

:-)

I remember thinking that about one of the original prompts: number 88, where the obvious conclusion is that the ex-cop bodyguard is also the one responsible for all the sinister nocturnal activity. Thus:
88) WHISPERS IN THE NIGHT by DIANE PERSHING
Silhouette Sensation
It began with a noise in the night…
When strange things began happening at his isolated home, lonely widower Ramon Salamander turned to handyman Jamie McCrimmon for protection. But what a mistake? Jamie was not only an ex-cop but also an ex-convict - though he swore he’d been framed. Yet if he was so eager to prove his innocence why was he spending his time fixing his house, instead?
Jamie seemed intent on gaining his trust - and as the mysterious dangers escalated, Ramon needed someone to keep him safe. Jamie was the perfect protector, because he needed nothing from him… or did he? Suddenly Ramon wondered just why Jamie had come to him - and how close he meant to get…

(Not a generated prompt; Salamander isn't in the cast list).

Random generators do have their little preferences. I think Sam was either the first or second character I typed into the list, not that that would make a difference.

73) Society Page Seduction - Maureen Child
Millionaire Irene Adler's bride to be left her standing at the altar and wedding planner Lucie Miller was dumbfounded when she was asked to fill in. Be Irene’s bride. For a year. What better way to escape her situation than by marrying a gorgeous, powerful stranger?

... well, I suppose Lucie was last seen in a situation that needs to be escaped.
146) Deeper - Megan Hart ( ... )

154) The Prince Who Charmed Her- Fiona McArthur
His princess in scrubs... Dr Rose Tyler knew that Prince Dalek Sec was not the man who would give her a happy-ever-after when he disappeared after their whirlwind affair. Even if she was the only woman who had infiltrated the steely barriers around his proud and dutiful heart. But now they are doctors working together aboard a cruise ship, and Sec realises there's one duty that has completely eluded him - his duty to himself. If he wants Rose to be his princess, he's got to prove that he's her Prince Charming after all...

The initial premise is scarily close to canon. Plus two metaphors that aren't metaphors any more: "whirlwind affair" and "steely barriers"...

Yes, after that, it wanted Polly/Sherlock to be a thing. :-)

I've been poking round the Mills and Boon website in search of more prompts and WHAT IS THIS?

Penniless Mary Rennie knows she’s lucky to have a home with relatives in Edinburgh, but she does crave more excitement in her life. So when her cousin’s ring is lost in one of several fruitcakes heading around the country as gifts Mary seizes the chance for adventure.

Oh, well, feed it into the generator. "Penniless %alice_l% knows %anom%'s lucky etc." and turn the handle a few times...

3)The Corporate Wife - Leigh Michaels
His boss had asked him to marry him! Gorgeous, wealthy Vislor Turlough had proposed, and he, plain the Sixth Doctor, had said no! As Turlough’s PA he already organised his life… So why did Six wish he’d said yes?

I think I just died laughing . . .

 Six would make a dreadful PA! He'd be grammatical, but, er,!

ETA: Also... plain! Six is exploding with indignation somewhere!
