Another fannish meme

Meme found in the wild: Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing, etc. Treat us to some commentary once you're done.I thought it' ( Read more... )

Oh my life!!!

I'd do this but I think I'd break brains and need to dose everyone with brain bleach afterwards!

 I really don't see that it could be worse than mine. Although it wasn't quite as bad as I feared once I looked at the list and started vaguely alphabetising in my head and went 0_o!!

It did throw up one or two interesting things, though.

I'll say it did! *giggles*

That's the third time I've seen this meme in 24 hours, once even on a journal archive from seven years ago that I was reading through; clearly it is FATE. ;P

(LJ or DW, though, that's the question. My icons are not all the same...)

(BOTH, of course. ;P)

Also, a few responses to yours:

* I want Threepio and Cally and Clyde and D84 to all team up now. I do not know D84 really, but the other three would WIN ALL THE THINGS (although 3PO would be rather nervous about it. ...okay, time for sleep, my brain just tried to insist that his gold-coloured plating probably makes him more hyperconductive and therefore sensitive than silver-coloured 3PO units. If I remember, there will be a follow-up comment remarking on the rest later.)

I confess, I stole it from your flist! (When I am bored, I read your flist and one other person's a lot. When I am really bored I do friends of friends. Sometimes LJ is quiet when I have little brain and nothing else to entertain myself with. ;-D)

LOL, I didn't see you'd written both - that was what I thought as soon as I read it.

I find that hard to imagine. Clyde and D84, though. Aww. (I love D84, but then I love Robots of Death; it is to blame for a lot of things like me liking Leela, Blake's 7, David Collings and stuff written by Chris Boucher far too much. But whatever a person thinks about it, the robots are beautiful.)

I await your further comments. *taps foot impatiently* (Heh. ;-D)

* FROBISHER/GANDALF. *also observes in stunned silence* (I kind of want to see how they'd get along now, though. ;P)

* Harry Sullivan and Henry Gordon Jago: I agree with you completely. (Not that I've seen Jago, but I've seen his actor in a different role? o_O ...when I don't admit this stuff I can carry on quite a Knowledgeable Who-Fan impersonation. XD)

* LIZ/LEELA FOR ALL OF THE EVERS NOW PLSKTHX. I WANT FIC OF THIS. (I might even try to write some myself if I'd seen more than, er, five minutes of Leela. Oh library, why must you be such a pain. Oh Netflix, ditto ditto.)

* Six/Silver and Seven/Servalan: I don't even know. Wow. I think the universes would explode. (I barely know Servalan, but if she is as... not "sneaky", what's the word I want? The same thing Seven is. Chess-master-ish. If she's as that-word as I get the impression she is, they would totally outmaneuver each other until they blew up the universe ( ... )

*handwaves* You are totally a knowledgeable Who fan, yes. ;-)

Servalan is pretty sneaky, but probably not quite up to Seven's level. It would be an interesting match, though. Oh, yes... :-)

Actually, Six and Silver, I hadn't thought about them being the same. They come at their smugness from such different angles. I can't quite explain. Six is bombastic and boasts of his cleverness and is, well, Six, but he's the Doctor. He can forget all that and be tactful, caring and compassionate when the moment comes, more so than quite a few of his other incarnations. It's not quite just an act, but it partly is. (I love that contrast in him; it's why he's such fun to write - you can go OTT on the first aspect and it's lovely, and then you can come down to something quiet and serious.) Whereas Silver, for all his deliberate mischief and annoyingness, his smugness is actually kind of fundamentally him... but also just a fact rather than big-headedness? He's been made very shiny and he's happy about that, and he is sure that ( ... )

Heh, some interesting combinations. I might give this a go...

...So it turns out I have four icons with characters on them: Daibhid Ceannaideach, Dabihid Chelonidae, the Tenth Doctor, and Rincewind. I have therefore decided against doing this meme, because the thought of shipping my own author avatar with his toon-counterpart breaks my brain, never mind anyone else's.

LOL.

But Ten/Rincewind might work out. It'd just involve a lot of running, probably mainly Ten chasing Rincewind all over the place...

Well, if you're ever short of inspiration for ficlets, some of these might be worth writing.

Lucie / Lynda: I suspect that whether they fought or got romantic (or both), Lucie would yell "You can't fire me - I quit!" at some point, and there'd be an awful lot of tidying up needed afterwards. Possibly involving replacement of furniture.

Rani / Cardinal Richelieu: Maybe the Shopkeeper and the Captain decide to send her back in time to retrieve one of the Cardinal's possessions? And she's forced to do it using her feminine wiles? Or perhaps in the course of an adventure she runs into Ron Higgins (professional Cardinal Richelieu impersonator) as played by Michael Palin.

[Aside: I notice that on TV Tropes, someone's theorised that the Shopkeeper and the Captain are Elements: Diamond and Mercury, respectively.]

Two/Sarah could be interesting - perhaps with Season 6B Two, and SJA Sarah?

There are a couple nice things in amongst the craziness, aren't there?

Yes. As I said, pretty much. And Colin would sell tickets, or take bets or something.

Heh, I really don't think there's any salvaging Rani/Cardinal Richelieu, to be honest! (Also, that's v interesting - although I find I instinctively disapprove of people thinking Other Characters could be Elements!)

One for you, I think? ;-)

I'm not sure the sets of 'nice things' and 'crazy things' are entirely disjoint...

That wouldn't be reverse psychology you're using on me, would it?

(Also, that's v interesting - although I find I instinctively disapprove of people thinking Other Characters could be Elements!)

I can see one major problem with the theory: Sarah, Clyde, Rani and all the incidental characters made it to the end of the story in one piece :-)

Oh, and strictly speaking isn't the Cardinal's first name Armand? Which would have quite the ripple effect on the list: Armand / Barbara all the way down to R2D2 / Rani, if I've done it right. And then there's the question of whether Cassius is the same person as the historical Gaius Cassius Longinus...

(With those two name changes and sorting the list by surname, I got Bob Cratchit / Mary Crawley, Maid Marian / The Master, Ace / Dayna and Lucie Miller / Catherine Morland among other pairings. It seems to me that your icon list would make good material for a full-on random pairing generator).

I had a bunch of cartoon characters in my icons (as well as regular characters) when I did this once upon a time. It was really quite disturbing.

And you had Larry the Cucumber!!

Okay, you win on the crazy icon pairings front. :-)
