After Mac had finished on the phone with Ray she fought the tears that were in her eyes. This couldn't get any worse, Mac couldn't feel any more hopeless. They were coming for him, they were going to take him. At Mac's panicked cry, Kay dropped the shirt he had been putting on and ran for the stairs. Meeting her halfway down he wrapped his arms around her. "Baby, what's wrong?

Billy sat at the stop of the stairs holding Walter and Elliot. He could hear everything they were saying. He knew this couldn't last. Nothing he loved seemed to last but worse, he hated that Mac seemed so upset. He wasn't sure what to do so he simply hopped down the stairs, bears in tow, and looked up at them.

Looking down Kayhan noticed, Billy standing there hugging his bears. "So you heard, kemosabe?"

Billy scowled and crossed his arms. "I want to stay with Mac!" He ran over and hugged Mac's leg, dropping his bears. "I'm staying with Mac!"

Kayhan knelt beside both of them, stroking Billy's hair. "That may not be possible for a few days, kemosabe. The courts have to decide who'll take care of you until your dad comes back, but I promise you this; I'm gonna do everything I can to help Mac convince the judge to let you come back here."

Seizing children is the hardest part of Maxine Brown's job. Each situation was different and though some children may not need to be taken, most of them did. Being a social worker with DYFS- department of youth and family services came with its ups and downs. This particular case didn't make a lot of sense to her, it sounded like borderline kidnapping. She would do her best to find out all the facts but until then, the child, a seven year old boy named William, born in January of 2000 would be placed in foster care.

Expecting hostility, she knocked at the door.

Kayhan started upstairs to find Mac and Billy, when there was a knock at the door. Grabbing a shirt from the stack of laundry he'd brought over to keep at Mac's, he shrugged into it and looked through the peephole. Opening the door he tried to smile as he heard Mac and Billy coming down the stairs. "May I help you?" He asked, fairly sure that this was the social worker.

Maxine pulled out her bussiness card and handed it to the young man in front of her. "Hello. I'm Maxine Brown with the department of children and families. I've been authorized to take the child being harbored here into custody."

"The lady who found him, Macaria, is helping him pack the clothes she bought him. Would you like to come in, please? There are a few things I think we need to clear up here." Kayhan opened the door wider and gestured to the living room. "I'm Kayhan Renard, by the way, Ms. Brown. Macaria's neighbor."
