They've come to take him away...tag Billy and Kayhan

After Mac had finished on the phone with Ray she fought the tears that were in her eyes. This couldn't get any worse, Mac couldn't feel any more hopeless. They were coming for him, they were going to take him. Everything seemed to slow down in her mind, no sound in her ears but the beating of her own heart and the blood rushing through them

Billy sat at the stop of the stairs holding Walter and Elliot. He could hear everything they were saying. He knew this couldn't last. Nothing he loved seemed to last but worse, he hated that Mac seemed so upset. He wasn't sure what to do so he simply hopped down the stairs, bears in tow, and looked up at them.

Looking down Kayhan noticed, Billy standing there hugging his bears. "So you heard, kemosabe?"

Billy scowled and crossed his arms. "I want to stay with Mac!" He ran over and hugged Mac's leg, dropping his bears. "I'm staying with Mac!"

Kayhan knelt beside both of them, stroking Billy's hair. "That may not be possible for a few days, kemosabe. The courts have to decide who'll take care of you until your dad comes back, but I promise you this; I'm gonna do everything I can to help Mac convince the judge to let you come back here."

"No!!!" Billy yelled, holding as tightly as he could to Mac. "I like it here. I'm safe here and Mac loves me and takes care of me! I want to stay!"

"I don't have the right to," reaching up she ran her fingers through illy's hair, "Oh, I'm so sorry. If we had just kept it quiet you were here, no-one would have told."

Billy looked up at her sadly, his little body unable to respond anyway but cry. "Please? Please can I stay with you?"

Kayhan just wrapped his arms around both of them , doing what he could to calm them for a moment before taking off into the other room with his cell phone and making phone calls, trying to find a way out of this that wouldn't seperate Billy and Mac.

Billy climbed into Mac's arms when Kayhan left the room and Mac sat on the steps. He buried his head in her neck. "I only want to stay with you! Only with you!"

"I know, I know. I want you to stay too, but it's not legal sweetie. Maybe we can find a way, but I promise, I...I'll call and write all the time while we sort this out."

Billy kept crying but he managed a nod and to meet Mac's face. "When? What happens next? I'll be a brave boy, I promise."

"Soon, really soon." She kissed the top of his head, "We should pack, then you can take some things with you."

Billy nodded and climbed the stairs, holding Mac's hand tightly, pulling her with him. "Will you come visit me?"

"Yes," She couldn't stop the tears. This was breaking both their hearts and she knew it. If she ever found out how these people found out, believe me she would hurt them.

In his room she set a bag on the bed, slowly packing his clothes. The more things she packed, the harder she cried.

Slowly Billy packed his things with her, recounting the day they went shopping and picked out all these things. It seemed like just yesturday he had met Mac and now he had to leave. He just hoped they would have to be apart for very long. It felt like he was loosing his mother all over again.
