NVIDIA 2009 GPU roadmap revealed - Dunno how I missed this one but it might influence someone's purchasing decisions. I think it means that I'll be sticking with the overclocked Sli 8800GTs with the proviso that I can't get them fucking well working properly in Vista64.

No idea what's wrong at the moment beyond "after a while it dies on its arse ( Read more... )

i know i'm probably just being biased, but couldn't it be vista that's causing the problems? if memory serves, xp64 had next to no compatability for most of the equipment that was supposed to work with it... :/ wouldn't surprise me if the same thing had happened again...

It could, but I'm not hearing of other people having these issues after looking for them online. I'm hearing of people having other issues but not this kind of one :)

Have you ruled out overheating, i.e. pointed a desk fan at the innards? It's not inconceivable that the northbridge is toasty...

The hottest things in my machine are the two gfx cards and logging show they only get upto about 76C at most. Running Prime95 with 8 threads gets the CPU upto 46C for a couple of the cores but regardless of what I do the northbridge seems to be around 40C, all other temps in the machine are below it at around 33C to 35C. Though they are helpfully labelled "temp(1-3)" which doesn't tell you much.
