You're not making the challenge life easy for yourself! :)

Lol, I feel I'm finally getting a good handle on this one now, I'm actually having fun plotting a strategy.

That challenge looks really interesting! I've never had sims live off the earth. Challenges seem to be more enjoyable when they make you change the way you play (like running businesses in the BaCC, something my regular sims rarely did).

(And just after I wrote that, I read further and you explained that you regretted starting these "hard" challenges :D)

Sweet talking the tomatoes :D

Love the house! But yeah greenhouse walls are super expensive.
What's wrong with the fireplace? *reads further* oh, lol! I never use it, I'll test it next time I launch the game.

Well I'm glad you mended your relationship with this household. When I start disliking a household for any reason (and it happens all too often :p) it really spoils the pleasure. I feel your pain!
Playing alphabetical rotations helps me with that, I've found it's better to just deal with it and play them one way or another, than let those households send bad vibes to the whole hood.

And sometimes you get rewarded and start really liking those "what-was-I-thinking" households

I am so glad I'm not the only one who gets household remorse! And the "what-was-I-thinking household" is a perfect term it! :D

The timing was the biggest problem. I love challenges, but in this case it was too much of a good thing :p

Anyway, I'm really into this one now, I think building a complete, self-sustaining farm with no outside income source or digging is going to take some real time and thought, which I enjoy doing, and having a cool house I know I can build - that really was what turned the household around for me, so thank you for that :) There's a lot in this challenge that will be a change in how I normally play.

I'll probably get the chance to check the Shoddy Stove too, in my Homeless Challenge. Btw for future reference, the radiator works well for keeping an area warm, even without walls.

I might have a look at playing MV alphabetically too.

Buying the fireplace and selling it back didn't create the bug for me (still 100§), but I haven't tried to let it appreciate overnight yet. The dreamcatchers took time too :p
I'll retry and report back, I'm playing Raimondo's house next and it will fit their house. (If they DIAF because of it, please note that it will be your fault XD)
I kind of hope it's the same bug, I was sorry they fixed the dreamcatcher bug :D It was less cheaty than the townie networking 10% discount! It took time, I considered it a family heirloom the sims passed on to their kids.

I got into the habit of playing alphabetically because my maxis neighbourhoods are huge, dozens of households for some, but I mostly meant playing everyone in order for the same amount of time, it doesn't have to be alphabetical. That's how I listed them when I became concerned about them ageing at the same pace, and it stayed :)

I was thinking to myself, "Why complain about spraying if you could afford the lady bugs?" only to smile when Vern turned plant sim. But of course! I hope everyone makes it through the winter ok.

After playing all these years, Vern is my first plantsim - I'm glad that made you smile :) Thanks, I hope they make it too. When I assessed their situation further after I quit for the week, I saw that with the design of the house having built-in garden areas, I'm going to try to grow some plants too when I return to them - they really need money!

It feels like forever since I've done the gardening stuff in The Sims 2. I always remember that fridges stocked with awesome veggies ended up with over-filling meals and lots of fat sims pretty fast. I can't seem to remember all the plants though and how much the different ones sold for. >_>

I'm using the info here to plan which garden plants will give me the best bang for the buck while their money situation is tight:

Hooray, another new family, and a new challenge at that! Ooh, and the Harvest Moon challenge looks interesting, I'll have to keep it in mind if I find myself with a shortage of challenges.

... though best also to keep in mind that too many hardship challenges too close to each other can be a pain! Glad you found a way to make it fun, though. :)

Vern and Kaylynn make a cute couple, and it seems like Kaylynn is definitely interested.

Wow, not bad for a first harvest, congratulations! The house is starting to shape up.

Hmm, that's interesting about the fireplace, I haven't come across that. The dreamcatcher I knew about, I think I read somewhere that it was supposed to be more valuable once it has caught dreams, but I dunno, could be a bug too.

Aww, Chrysann is a cutie!

Well, looks like this challenge is off to a good start. Looking forward to seeing how things go on from here! :)

Yeah, the Harvest Moon challenge is interesting, especially so when I returned to it after a break from the other challenges. I still love playing all of them, but I just had too many lined up in a row.

Kaylynn definitely acted interested, despite only one bolt of attraction for them. Guess that's what the portachug she brought along is for :)

I was afraid the fireplace appreciating might be a CC conflict, but it happened for Simlili too, so that's a relief :D

House is shaping up, but I'll probably do things a little differently when I get back to them, like remove a couple of greenhouse walls in exchange for planting some pole beans in the house and enclosing them with temporary regular walls to keep them from freezing.

I'm confident Chrysann will grow into her cheeks, too bad there aren't child Plantsims.

Thanks for the comment!
