So,
rodneyscat,
jhava,
beeej and I went on a little outing. There was sunshine. And good food. And champagne. And pink wine. And driving a bad ass Merc (thank you Hertz!) through Paris which is great fun but not something I'll need to do again...
And there was Merlin filming.
This was a week of night shots so we didn't expect to get to see much as filming only started around lunchtime. On Thursday afternoon there was indoor filming but we did get to ogle Bradley and Rupert from afar when they came out into the courtyard between takes. And we got bonus Tony, Richard and Colin when they arrived for their scenes. And Slash Knights doing a little scene for us :-)
And then on Friday we got really really lucky and had a whole afternoon of Bradley and Colin filming in the courtyard! They were spending hours on one scene, doing different takes from different angles. In the beginning their horses were standing behind them and the horses were very well behaved and quiet...until they got a bit bored. Bradley's horse started nudging him forward in the mid of a take - I have no clue how he managed to keep a straight face and continue his lines whilst pulling at the reigns and trying to get the horse to stand still. Then Colin's horse started stomping about. So then they did several takes without the horses. One time the wind was howling through the courtyard making too much noise. One time a small child called for his father rather loudly (the courtyard was crawling with small children at times - and they were usually quiet but sometimes they just weren't!). Bradley corpsed a couple of times. Then they needed so shift some equipment around because the lighting had changed as the afternoon progressed. And there was lots of fussing with Bradley's hair. You could tell he was getting very fed up and bored. His coping mechanism seems to be to jump up and down whereas Colin just stood there really quietly. It was really interesting to watch!
Then when that scene was finally wrapped, they boys quickly rehearsed another one (which involved walking and talking) and then vanished. We thought we'd seen the last of them so we were delighted when they returned some time later in different outfits and did more of the walking and talking. And there was the funny bit with Bradley and the garbage can which has already been documented elsewhere :-)
And as the castle closed and we left, we got surprise Sir Leon plus knights outside the castle. A good day indeed!
