This is sound advice in a lot of situations. Also, generally one becomes better at a thing by doing a thing. Assuming this applies to LARP, then an attitude of "you're doing it wrong therefore you shouldn't do it at all" is counter-productive to the goal of creating more LARPers capable of doing it right. Anyone holding such an attitude is thus at best dumb & stupid and at worst an elitist asshole. As such, their opinion can be summarily disregarded. (Caveat: this does not apply to an attitude of "you're not doing it right, perhaps this is a better way of doing it...". Such attitudes are generally productive and should be handled in a different manner.)

Also, speaking as someone who admittedly knows little of LARP, your first paragraph becomes very bemusing when you set $god = God; $Nation = UK; $Race = Human; :) See also the Planet of Hats trope.

LARP is bad for you. Making tunics is a much better way to spend your time.

Beyond that, you can always try crewing - it's much friendlier, supportive and mostly less intense.
